Fun Activities Next Week

During the week of December 19th - 23rd we will have a spirit week with a theme each day. The first day of the week is rainbow day and each grade level will have a color from the rainbow to wear to show their class spirit. (K - Green, 1 - Yellow, 2 - Orange, 3 - Red, 4 - Blue, and 5 - Purple) On the 23rd, we will host the Gearity STEM Carnival which is always a popular event and a great way to transition to Winter Break.

Academic Supports Over Winter Break

Our staff and students have been completing Winter MAP and Acadience testing prior to Winter Break. We are seeing strong academic growth as we continue to support students in recovering from COVID learning loss. Students must complete additional academic work outside the school day to maintain academic growth. We are requesting that all students read every day over break - 20 minutes minimum. For our 3rd - 5th grade students, we are asking parents to support their students in earning 5 reading and 5 math blue ribbons from Study Island each week. The 2nd quarter ends on January 13th so students will have one week when we return from break to ensure all work is turned in and make-up assessments are completed. Reach out to your student's teachers if you have questions about grades in Infinite Campus.

The Sock Drive is Back!

The K Kids will be once again sponsoring the Gearity Sock Drive. For the past three years Gearity students and staff have collected socks for the homeless. All donated items will be given to the city of University Heights on December 23rd as part of a citywide event. The donation program will last two weeks and can help the needy in our community make it through another cold Cleveland winter. Thanks for your support in advance!

PBIS Works!

Gearity PDS is in our 2nd year of implementing the Positive Behavior Intervention Supports Program which is required by state law. The foundation of the PBIS program is setting clear behavior expectations, teaching all students the expectations, and reviewing data monthly to determine if students would benefit from additional supports. The Gearity expectations for our students are:

Personal Best

Acts Responsible

Works and Plays Safely

Shows Respect

Currently, we have seen a reduction in behavior referrals of 58% from the same time last school year. Staff from the District and Educational Service Center recently did a walk through of Gearity. They noted that 100% of our staff and students knew the school PAWS expectations and could identify how students are acknowledged when they meet the expectations. We will send families a survey when we return from Winter Break to get your input on our program and students will be surveyed in school. We value your feedback as we want to ensure that our school programming is meeting the needs of your family.
