Check out what's happening at Nike
Happy Wednesday Nike Families,
We are fast approaching the 100th day of school! We hope you are excited about the progress your child has made so far this year. The Nike Elementary staff are focused and committed to providing all students with a rigorous instructional program. Students are continuing to receive challenging learning opportunities on a daily basis, whether it is through accelerated instruction or additional support and extra practice.
We have a few fun days planned for next week.
The 100th Day of School is February 8th- We would like to invite the students to dress up like they are 100 years old. Get creative with glasses, hair, and outfits. It's a lot of fun!
The 101st Day of School is February 9th- To celebrate the 101st day of school, we would like to invite the students to dress up like a Dalmatian.

Go Scouts!
From Ms. Raeker
Helping others and having a sense of community can improve our mental health. When we help others, especially those in our community, it gives us a sense of belonging and makes us feel good about ourselves. To promote a sense of community at Nike Elementary, we will be hosting a food drive for our Little Food Pantry. Last year, students raised funds to build the Little Food Pantry which is located near the parking lot at Nike Elementary. Currently, the food pantry is getting stocked with just over a 100 food items each week. While we are happy the pantry is being utilized, we need your help in keeping the pantry stocked. We will be holding a food drive the week of February 13th and would love your help! We will be asking for donations of specific food items that are more popular in the pantry. See the attached flyer for more information. Thanks for making Nike Elementary a great community!
Feel free to reach out by emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us or call 636 271 1444 and ask for Ms. Raeker.
From the nurse
If your child has borrowed pants from the nurse's office, please be sure to get those items sent back to school as soon as possible!
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month! “Because developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums, the American Dental Association sponsors National Children’s Dental Health Month each February. The ADA offers free downloadable information, kid-friendly oral health worksheets and games on MouthHealthy.org." Art
Fourth grade artists have started working on their ceiling tile projects. Artists are working in small groups to create a design that will become part of the art room ceiling. Stay tuned for the results!
Artists in Pre-Kindergarten through third will begin their clay projects in February. Projects include pinch pots, birds, cups, and coil pots. Each project builds on the skills learned the year before. Fourth grade will create their clay projects after the ceiling tiles are completed.
Communication is key! I can be reached at cpatterson@mvr3.k12.mo.us or by calling the Nike office.
Library
Wow! It is already February! We have been busy in the library and still have a lot to do before the year is over. In January fourth graders worked on summarizing information and now we will be working on writing an informational paragraph and doing work cited for different sources. In January third graders are still working on different sources of information and will continue to work on them. Younger students have been working on knowing the difference between nonfiction and fiction books. We are also working on finishing reading our Show Me Picture books.
The Spring Book Fair is coming! The fair will be March 13th - March 17th. More specific information and dates will be sent home as the book fair gets closer.
PE
3rd & 4th grade parents be on the lookout for intramural information in your student's Thursday folder TOMORROW. Intramurals will begin MONDAY!
Students have just wrapped up their lifetime sports unit, they got to play some games such as pickleball & cornhole. With the older grades we will be moving into volleyball while we wait for the weather to warm up. Younger students will continue to do activities to build on their hand eye coordination.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out and email me at dmissey@mvr3.k12.mo.us
Title Reading
Mrs. Hollstein's class practices reading skills daily focusing on the 5 components of reading. It is so important to read at home for 20 minutes daily. At the end of this month, we will have a big celebration for students who receive Title 1 services and are completing their daily reading. Attached you will find some information about helping your child increase their sight word knowledge which also helps increase their reading fluency.
