A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
I hope you are having a GR-eat long weekend! Our second week is down and we had a lot to celebrate! We had lots of winning...cross country, tennis, volleyball, and football....closing out with the BIG 48-13 WIN against Katy Taylor on Saturday! Dr. Nivens joined us in the student section to have a little ROLLER COASTER fun with our Longhorns! Check out the video below. So much fun! Saturday night lights is not JUST about football...it is about ENERGY...and that takes ALL of our GR programs being involved! Band, drill, cheer, color guard, trainers, coaches, players, parents, and the RANCH ROWDY student section! It's electrifying...you should join us!
LCISD celebrated AP Young Scholars on Friday! 8 GRHS Young Scholars were honored with a luncheon and math competition against their HS Principals and Dr. Nivens. Needless to say, they beat us! We love celebrating academics at the Ranch, winning in and out of the classroom, is what it's all about!
The Jersey Day 4th period advisory SPIRIT winners enjoyed a COOL TREAT last Friday! Congrats to Ms. Holmes, Ms. Kaspar, Doc Hale's Trainers, and Coach Baker's advisory for having 98.9%-100% participation...that's amazing numbers...and the LOTE department took that "W" again! This week's SPIRIT Day is all about that RED, WHITE, and BLUE...so who will take the prize this week?
Dress Code, Lanyards, and Bus Pass Updates
- REAL TALK W/DRESS CODE: Ladies, you need some longer shorts 3-4 inches below the inseam. We are no longer allowing you to wear a jacket/sweater to cover up a crop top-because it is NOT staying zipped/buttoned. If you have a jacket/sweater on, (and a tank that shows your midriff) it MUST be zipped ALL day long or you will get a dress code violation and be sent to your AP. Gentlemen, pull up those pants, we should not be seeing those undies/shorts. House shoes are not deemed acceptable forms of "slides". Let's get tight IN SCHOOL Longhorns and save those clothing items for after school and weekend fun! Appreciate you!
- LANYARDS W/GRHS ISSUED ID - We will continue to pass out (ID's, Lanyard, and plastic protector) this week during lunches. By FRIDAY ALL STUDENTS WILL HAVE A GRHS ID AND WILL BE EXPECTED TO WEAR IT DAILY. GRHS ID's must be VISIBLY WORN on the TOP half of your body. If you refuse, you will have disciplinary consequences. Being responsible for 2633 students is a big job, and I need for all GRHS staff to be able to identify and assist students quickly. Thanks for following this rule.
- BUS PASSES - transportation said they are coming. If you happen to still have yours from last year, that will still work - AS LONG AS YOU DID NOT PUNCH A HOLE IN IT. I have requested replacements to be printed for our bus riders at the district level. Until then, they will still allow you to ride on your designated bus. Thanks for your patience.
PARKING LOT UPDATES:
In the AM- please pull up as far as you can and drop your student off. There a quite a few drop offs in the morning, and parents are staying parked until the front doors open. Unfortunately, this is backing traffic up on 762 since the drop off lane is not moving. Your student can safely wait under the covered awning once they get out of your car until the front doors open at 7:30am. If you are wanting to park and wait with them, please use the VISITOR PARKING SPOTS. Please drive slowly and yield to pedestrians moving across the front crosswalk. Thanks for your help!
Longhorns, thanks for choosing (and continuing) to be KIND and RESPECTFUL of everyone's individual mask choices! I am proud of you for making everyone feel included and safe to be at GRHS.
The front office is open Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!

Please understand that we cannot reveal a student's identity, nor specific class, due to confidentiality. We are not contract tracing this year, so there is no quarantining. I will say, that many of these cases we are reporting are from parents doing their due diligence of reporting when their student was exposed or tested positive outside of the school. We LOVE our Trainers!
TENNIS
The Varsity Longhorn Tennis team remains undefeated in district play and continues their winning streak with a 16 to 3 win over Travis on Tuesday! Consistent growth and persistence from all players is paying off. We are proud of our hard working athletes! Be sure to come out and support the team for senior night at home next Tuesday as they face off against Austin.
The Longhorn JV team came to compete tonight and took another WIN! The team defeated Travis with a stellar match score of 18-1. The athletes worked hard and pushed hard each point. We are proud of our players and their continued success!
FOOTBALL
The Longhorn Freshman Black team lost a heartbreaker to the Katy Taylor Mustangs 30-0. The Longhorns look to bounce back against Pearland Dawson next week.
The Longhorn Maroon Freshman team fought a tough battle Thursday night against the Mustangs from Katy Taylor. The tide swung back and forth between the Horns and the Mustangs. At the half George Ranch found themselves up 7-6 thank to a touchdown by Christian Lee who was set up with quality rushing by Josh Richardson and receiving by Desmond Drinkard. The second half started the way the first half ended, in a pitch battle between football warriors. The Longhorns were giving it everything they had with most of them having to play both ways. Fighting fatigue, cramps and a tough opponent the Longhorns took the lead 14-6 with another rushing touchdown from Christian Lee behind some dominant blocking by Dominic Solis. The Longhorns had some excellent defensive play from Matthew Reed, Ja'Viera Sloan and Matthew Sharp. They continued to fight tooth and nail but the Mustangs from the north were able to tie up the game at 14 all. Despite a valiant effort by the George Ranch offense, there was just not enough time left on the clock for the boys in maroon to finish them off. The Longhorns look to improve next week as they prepare to take on Pearland Dawson.
The George Ranch JV Longhorns took on the Katy Taylor Mustangs Thursday Night. The Horns battled close, especially early behind a strong effort up front, behind both the offensive & defensive lines. On offense, Julius Carter and Javon Randle had a finger print on the offensive game plan as the ball seemed to find their hands when a big play was needed. On defense, the Horns rallied around each other bringing consistent pressure. Diego Ramirez recorded sack while others brought an early rush that gave the quarterback a limited time to “Theorem.”
The Longhorns took on Katy Taylor Saturday Night at Traylor Stadium, taking home a resounding 48-13 win. The offense started off hot, cooled down a bit, but finished about as strong as possible in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Along with Hymond Drinkard’s 167 yards and 4 touchdowns, the Horns put up 300 yards on the ground. Cole Murphy dished the ball out to Joseph Wilson and Kiser twins to keep the defense honest. The Longhorns defense put their stamp on the game by forcing Katy Taylor to search for answers. Tim Fisher and Stephen Odusola-Stephen both caught interceptions at key points stopping any built Taylor Momentum. The Horns will travel to the Rig to take on Pearland Dawson next Saturday.
VOLLEYBALL
The Freshman Volleyball Team came up short in a 3 set loss last night versus Dickinson 26-24, 20-25, 20-25. The JV Volleyball Team took down Dickinson in 2 straight sets with scores of 25-19 and 25-19. The Varsity Longhorn Volleyball Team went the distance last night in a 2 and a half hours match. After dropping a close first set 23-25, the girls bounced back wining set 2 (25-22) and set 3 (25-15). The Longhorns dropped the 3rd set with a close score of 24-26, but rallied back to win set 5 (15-8) to seal the deal and win the match. Kill leader for the Longhorns was senior #2 Avery Shimaitis with 36 kills. Senior #5 Dylan Hoskins served up 5 aces. Block leaders were senior #2 Avery Shimaitis with 9 blocks followed by junior #11 Stefani Ayiteyfio, junior #16 Eryn Rainer, and freshman #15 Sydney Bryant with 7 blocks each. On serve receive, senior #1 Dylan Hoskins received 34 serves for the Longhorns. Player of the match was senior #12 Logan Lednicky.
The JV and Varsity Longhorn Volleyball Teams played host to St. John's Friday night and both teams came up victorious. The JV squad took care of business in 2 quick sets with scores of 25-15 and 25-14. The Longhorn Varsity Volleyball Team took care of St. John's in 3 sets winning with scores of 25-15, 25-20, and 25-17. Serve ace leaders were senior #5 Mikayla Sutton and junior #8 Riley Steubing with 2 serve aces each. Dig leader was junior #8 Riley Steubing with 12 digs. Set Assist leader was freshman #3 Addison Lednicky with 17 set assists. Kill leader was senior #2 Avery Shimaitis with 14 kills. Block leaders were senior #2 Avery Shimaitis and freshman #15 Sydney Bryant with 5 blocks each. Serve receive leader was senior #1 Dylan Hoskins with 12 receptions. Player of the match was freshman #15 Sydney Bryant.
