Congratulations to the Mills Counseling Department!
We are proud of the Mills counseling department. This year, they took home the prestigious CREST award! Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas (CREST) is sponsored by the Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA) and awarded to school counseling programs that meet CREST requirements. CREST is a continuous improvement document that school counseling programs can use to demonstrate effective communication and a commitment to obtaining results.
Thank you, Ms. Edwards and Ms. Whatley, for continuing to provide robust programming that meets the diverse needs of our students, staff, families, and community!
Counselors' Corner: Teaching & Learning About Generosity
Mills' schoolwide word for December is GENEROSITY.
Generosity is a quality that most people wish they and others had more of in their life. It is a quality that’s a lot like unselfishness.
It is giving your time, love, food, resources or simple kindness. Generosity of spirit means giving non-material gifts to others such as forgiveness, credit for something accomplished, encouragement, or even a simple hug. Learning to be generous encompasses your whole being.
How can you facilitate this at home? Let your child choose how to help others. Talk to your child about their interests, and then guide them towards a project they can do themselves. For example, animal lovers can collect blankets for an animal shelter. Children who love to read can collect gently used books to donate to a local charity or visit a nursing facility or childcare facility and share their time reading to the residents. Here are some more ways to explore ways to show generosity in out of the community:
