Message from Principal Phelan
Greetings Lowell,
Today at Lowell West, we began our day as planned. Teachers welcomed their students and then read aloud the letter from me and Mr. Chen. After the letter was read, many teachers led a discussion focused on expectations and values. The time we spent revisiting our core values and norms was thoughtful and productive. Each teacher spent time focusing their activity toward their special set of students.
Iris Teft, one of our fifth graders.
made one of the most profound contributions to her classroom discussion. She said, if we've identified bathrooms as a space where kids are not living our core values or where kids see unsafe words. We should do everything we can to concentrate on making those spaces the spaces all kids can feel they belong. Let's put up posters and pictures that make people feel welcome and a sense of belonging. I agree with Iris, we need and will work to make our spaces reflect our core values.
I want to express my gratitude to the families who provided support and feedback this week. Your thoughts and voices are important to us. On Tuesday, we will be hosting the Lowell Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Parent Meeting. We have reserved time on the agenda for a conversation about challenging events in our school community. I encourage all to attend.
With a grateful heart,
Stacy

I am thrilled for the chance to bring our community together in support of your young artists.
