Plano Middle School Weekly Update
Monday, October 4th - Friday, October 8th
Plano Middle School Families,
Many of you have probably seen or heard, a TikTok challenge dubbed the “devious licks” trend. Across the country students have used this trend to vandalize school bathrooms, hallways, and classrooms. At Plano Middle School we experienced this on a minor scale for a few days. We have an AMAZING group of students and as soon as we addressed this with the student body it stopped immediately. As great as our students are the fact still exists that they will continue to be exposed to material like this through various social media platforms. We all must continue to reinforce safe social media practices and good decision making skills in our students.
I wanted to bring to your attention future “challenges” that have been mentioned through social media platforms including October – “Smack a staff member on the backside,” and November – “Kiss your friend’s girlfriend at school”. These are NOT harmless pranks, it is clearly disrespectful, and may require involvement of local law enforcement. Let's be ahead of these trends and make sure our students make good decisions and do not put themselves in a position that will require disciplinary consequences.
On Monday we will again be addressing this information with our student body in an effort to be proactive and prevent them from happening. Please talk with your children about their choices at school and with their social media usage, encouraging them to behave like the amazing students we have grown to appreciate. There is no excuse for these behaviors, thus any of these actions will include appropriate consequences. We all want to keep our school community a safe learning environment where we can focus on developing outstanding young adults.
Plano Middle School recognizes the importance of the responsibility for ensuring the safety of all of our students and staff. We appreciate you partnering with us to ensure that all Plano students respect others, as well as our school property, and make good decisions that allow for a safe and welcoming learning environment for everyone.
Boy's Basketball
Boys basketball tryouts will take place on October 21st & 22nd from 3-4:30pm. Also, there will be an informational meeting for anyone wanting to try out that will take place on Wednesday, October 13th before school at 7:25 in the Gym. Coaches will share additional information at that time.
If you're interested in signing up for tryouts, you must do the following:
- Turn in a current, unexpired copy of a physical. These can be turned in at Student Services and must be in before tryouts. (NOTE: If you got one for PYTF, they don't share those with us, so you'll still have to give us a copy.)
- Fill out the Boys Basketball Signup Google Form linked to this post. You must fill this out in order to try out for either one. You must use your school email account to log in and sign up.
If you have any questions, see Coach Alley (7th grade), Coach Spivey (8th grade), or Mr. Solecki.
