It's been a fun and productive first quarter here at North! In our classrooms, our teachers have been focused on delivering high-quality instruction driven by equity, expectations, and excellence. We are diving deep into our schoolwide data on a regular basis, both at the school level and at an individual classroom level. Our teachers work diligently to meet the needs of each student.
We want to offer our congratulations to our athletic and activities groups for their accomplishments during the fall season! Three highlights: Our girls' volleyball team is, as of this writing, in the midst of a playoff run! They have claimed the regional championship and will soon be competing for sections. Our marching band has had a very busy fall season, capped off with a second place finish at State in Whitewater! Congratulations to Nora Cerroni who qualified for the State Golf Tournament.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the many families that came out for our first round of Parent/Teacher Conferences in October. It was great to have so many of you here partnering with our teachers and staff. Our next round of conferences will be Wednesday, November 16 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Please be on the lookout for invitations from your student's teachers.
I encourage you to check out our weekly Northstar News & Notes for some of the latest happenings here at North. Also, follow us on Twitter @waukeshanorth1. I encourage any staff, student, or parent to send me any pictures or shout-outs for us to include in these communications so we can celebrate our students' successes!
Thank you for your partnership -- Go Northstars!

Hello Northstars!
I hope everyone had a great start to the school year and are back into the swing of things!
Can you believe we are already almost halfway through the first semester? This is the perfect time to review your child’s grades and work with them to establish short and long term goals. Your child could then utilize their school agenda to document these goals and establish a timeline to accomplish them!
Throughout the course of the year, our students will be required to take specific standardized tests based on their grade levels. Here is the outline of our assessment calendar with testing windows. Families will be given information about the specific test dates, times, and requirements as we get closer to each exam.
Standardized testing data is used both at the classroom and school level to determine instructional areas of growth. Test scores also provide an insight into students’ areas of academic strength and growth, and teachers can use this data to tailor their classroom instruction and lesson planning.
Feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher if you ever have questions about their grades or academic progress. We appreciate your continued support as we work to ensure that all our students are successful here at North.
Sincerely,
Christina Ali

Greetings, Northstars.
This month I would like to address the topic of bullying and our related school board policies. Bullying is defined in policy 5517.01 as deliberate or intentional behavior using word or actions, intended to cause fear, intimidation, or harm. Bullying may be a repeated behavior and involves an imbalance of power. Furthermore, it may be serious enough to negatively impact a student's educational, physical, or emotional well being.
Our most recent YRBSS results showed that 20% of students have experienced or witnessed some form of bullying, often electronic and most frequently between female students.
Bullying can be physical, verbal, psychological or cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can be particularly devastating to young people because of the anonymity that the Internet provides, the wide audience messages can reach and how instant an event can take place without any pause for reflection.
Any student that believes s/he has been or is the victim of bullying should immediately report the situation to the building principal or assistant principal. Reports of bullying may be made verbally or in writing and may be made confidentially. All such reports, whether verbal or in writing, will be taken seriously and documented.
Parents of each student involved in the bullying report will be notified prior to the conclusion of the investigation. If the investigation finds that bullying has occurred, it will result in prompt and appropriate remedial and/or disciplinary action.
Sometimes it can be difficult to distinguish between conflict and bullying, and we often find that students involved in these situations were friends at one point and have had a falling out. It is important to remember that we have a great resource in our student services team. We have Ms. Rypel, Ms. Stigler and Ms. Werner on our school counseling staff as well as our school social worker Ms. Bratz and our school psychologist Ms. Rapp. They are all skilled and experienced in navigating difficult situations and helping students understand their options and resources.
Bullying is a complex problem that requires a team effort between the school and our students and families. We take it very seriously and I hope that this information will help you understand our policies and processes as well as our resources here at North High School.
Respectfully,
Brian Schlei
Assistant Principal (A-G)

We are wrapping up fall sports and have successes to celebrate! Girls Volleyball made a deep run in the playoffs, their best success in a long time. The Marching Band came in second at state, and the Boys Volleyball Co-Op also made a good run!
We are ramping up for Winter Sports and excited to see what winter sports brings. We also have the fall play and all of our clubs and activities rocking and rolling.
Our teams all appreciate all the support we’ve gotten this fall and can’t wait for it to continue into the spring. I’ve also appreciated the warm welcome I’ve gotten from everyone I’ve met as the new AD.
Go Northstars!

Parent Teacher Conferences - November 16th 5-7pm. Parent/Guardian Sign Up Process
Students! Make Sure You Refresh Your Schedule Every Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday Each Week
JIT schedules are constantly changing
If you do not have a JIT assignment Wed, Thurs, Friday,
You must go to your Monday/Tuesday Homeroom.
If you have questions about your schedule
stop in the main office or student services.
At North, we are focused on ensuring students are in a productive learning environment from the bell signaling the start of class to the bell ending class -- in other words: bell-to-bell.
From bell-to-bell:
1) Students' cell phones should not be seen or heard. Like last school year, students may either turn their phone into their teacher's cell phone caddy at the start of class or leave their cell phone locked away in their locker.
2) In order to be able to safely identify all students, hats and hoodies may not be worn in the classroom or in hallways.
3) Students must be in their classroom on time and must remain in the classroom until dismissed by their teacher at the end of class.
Thank you for your partnership in ensuring your student is successful from bell-to-bell!
Advanced Placement (AP Exam Registration)
Each of the Advanced Placement (AP) courses that we offer at North has an AP exam that pertains to that course. The AP exams are offered by the Collegeboard in May of each school year. Students must take the AP exam associated with their AP course if they would like to have the possibility of earning college credit for the course. In order to take an AP exam this school year, students must register for the exam through their Collegeboard account and also in Total Registration at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/502389
Follow this two-step process to register for an AP exam:
Log in to Total Registration www.totalregistration.net/AP/502389 and follow the steps to register and pay for the AP exam(s) that you plan to take. If you do not already have a Total Registration account, you will need to start by creating one. All 9th-grade students will need to start by creating an account.
Join your AP class on Collegeboard website and indicate that you are taking the AP exam by clicking “Yes”
You should have already “joined” your AP class with your teacher’s help but you might still need to indicate whether or not you are going to take the AP exam. If you have questions about this, please ask your AP teacher.
The regular deadline to register for an AP exam is November 8th, 2022. Students must register and pay for their exam(s) by November 8th in order to avoid any late fees. Please click on the following link to view additional AP testing information. If you have questions you can reach out to the AP teacher or Heidi Stigler, AP Coordinator, at: hstigler@waukesha.k12.wi.us

Library Catalog - Destiny Information
Did you know that you have the ability to search, hold and read books in our district libraries from anywhere, on any of your devices? Just have students use the app on their iPads called "Follett Destiny'' (the one with a tree) that takes them directly to the traditional catalog. Or the newer look is the Destiny Discover app (see image below). Both apps will accomplish the same task- just a different look. Click on "Catalog" to search for a book or another resource. If you would like to place a hold on a book, or read an electronic copy of the book, or to view your own account, you just need to be logged in first. You will see “Log in'' in the upper-right hand side of your screen. Use the same username and password that you use for your other accounts in the district. Username is a first part (before @) of your student’s SDW email account (first initial+last name+###@stu.waukesha.k12.wi.us). Password is lunch code+safe word.
Find some New Titles and place them on hold. We will deliver it to your English class.
Don’t have an English class we will then look to see what class we can bring the book to.
