Keller ISD Marching Expo
The Keller ISD Marching Expo is back and better than ever!
Because of the pandemic, Keller ISD marching bands missed out on many of the traditional events that bring success to our programs last year. Rehearsals were adjusted with students coming and going in small groups, rather than the entire band rehearsing at once. Halftime shows were limited because of social distancing. Marching Invitationals were canceled. Bands were not able to participate in UIL Region, Area, and State Marching Contests. And yet, in spite of all the struggles, the Keller ISD marching bands are back, and better than ever, and they are excited to perform for the community at the return of the KISD Marching Expo!
The Eighth Annual KISD Marching Expo will be held on October 5, at the KISD Stadium. Gates open at 6:00 pm and the show kicks off at 7:00.
This event is produced by the Keller ISD Fine Arts Department, and is lead by Fine Arts Specialist, Shelby Jones. Jones says, "After a year off, we are excited to pull together as a district to celebrate our exceptional band programs. We are expecting over 5,000 community members to join together to not only enjoy the music of every single one of our Middle School and High School bands, but also to support these programs that are an integral part of the educational experience of our students. This is one of our department's favorite events of the year because of the overwhelming district-wide community involvement and the incredibly positive impact it has on our band students."
The KISD Marching Expo is a "dress rehearsal" for the high school bands, who will be showcasing their competition shows, in anticipation of the UIL Region Marching Contest, which takes place one week later, on October 12. The bands will continue to perfect their shows through the rest of the season, as they participate in the Area and State rounds of the UIL Marching Contest, as well as Bands of America and other regional marching contests.
The expo also features performances by all of KISD's middle school bands! They will perform from the visitor stands, then perform a combined number with the high school bands on the field as the grand finale!
Keller ISD Fine Arts Director, Kim Blann, says, "The Keller ISD Marching Expo brings together high School and middle school band members from across the district to show off their work, and share their love for music. The camaraderie of our band programs in Keller ISD is truly what makes our district special, and this event highlights their support for one another. It will be an exciting evening for our students, and community members alike."
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from any of the middle or high school band programs. If seats are still available on the day of the event, tickets may be purchased at the gate. KISD Fine Arts strongly recommends purchasing tickets in advance, as this event WILL sell out.
The KISD Marching Expo is sponsored by Bell's Music Shop and Balfour Beatty Construction.
