I hope you had a fabulous week! I am so excited you are here at TOPS! Before we all take off for the (long) weekend I wanted to send out an overview of what to expect next week, some resources to help you, and a fun riddle!
Preparing for next week:
You will start to see assignments in the daily plan on your OLS. Please make sure you look ahead to see what you will be working on. Go ahead and gather the books and supplies you will need so that you can begin working on Tuesday.
USA Test Prep
Please ensure that you know how to log in to USA Test Prep so that you can begin to work on assignments there next week.
Teacher Graded Assignment:
These will be assigned in USA Test Prep. If you have trouble logging in, please let me know.
Resources:
Please make sure that you have your books organized as we will go through some of them in class next week.
Weekly Riddle:
Each Friday I will send out a Riddle. Please come to class the following week with your answer
In a one-story pink house, there was a pink person, a pink cat, a pink fish, a pink computer, a pink chair, a pink table, a pink telephone, a pink shower– everything was pink! What color were the stairs?
I will share the answer next week in class! Have an amazing weekend!
5th Grade Math with Mrs. Vandever
I'm looking forward to seeing you in our math orientation class connect on Wednesday. We will talk about class expectations and then have some fun using the tools in Blackboard and getting to know each other. You will need to have a notebook and pencil for your math class connects, but we will talk about that during class as well. You will begin working in the OLS (On-Line School). I have listed the lessons you need to complete below. There are some lessons that direct you to offline work in your yellow book. Even though the math book is a hardback book, you will not need to send it back, so you can write in this book. See you in class!
Math Work:
- Math Readiness Assessment in USA Test Prep: Make sure this is completed before you start your other math assignments
- OLS Lessons: Unit 6 Lesson 1, 5, and 6. (Skip pages 77-88 of the offline work in your yellow math book)
- Math Facts Pro Multiplication Fact Practice: Students are expected to login and practice their facts at least 3 times a week. Knowing multiplication facts with quick recall is vital. Be sure to login and practice 3 times this week, you will receive a TGA grade every week. Here is the login information
- https://mathfactspro.com/
- Teacher Username: TOPSMath
- First Name and Last Name with space in-between (same as OLS)
- Password: Student ID
5th Grade Science with Mr. McIntosh
A great big WELCOME to our new TOPS students! I am so happy to have you 5th graders in Science, and I just want to give you some idea of what next week will look like for us. We started the year by looking at the scientific method and what that means as we are doing science all year long. This week you won’t need anything except your working headset, a science journal/notebook, pencil, and your imagination.
You will have some OLS assessments that will begin the week of Sept. 24th, and we will discuss what those assessments will look like as well as how we will use USATestPrep. You will also have a Course Prep Plan that will help you understand what was covered during the first two weeks of school. DON’T WORRY, we’re going to make sure that you can understand what we have been studying and where we are going from here. Remember that you can always reach out to me with any questions that you may have about science or anything else. See you in class!

- Lesson 4 – Conflict

I'm looking forward to seeing you in our social studies orientation class connect on Wednesday. We will talk about class expectations and then have some fun using the tools in Blackboard and getting to know each other. Welcome to TOPS!
5th Grade Music with Mrs. Bass
Welcome to 5th grade Music! This week we will learn how to navigate the music program, Music Studio. I will walk you through how to find everything you need during our content orientation on Thursday morning. :) Check your email for a PDF file from me about Music Studio (it will also be available in the file share in the OLS). There are also some directions and helpful hints in the Music Reference Guide book you received in the mail with your materials.
Every week you will check the grade level newsletter to see which Music Studio lessons to complete. Just open Unit 1, Lesson 1 in the OLS and click the link to take you to Music Studio! (I marked everything else as skipped in the OLS because there isn't any content in those lessons. You can just ignore the skipped ones.)
Course prep work for the week of 09/17:
- Music Studio - Section 1, Unit 1, Lesson 1 - Sing Together in Rhythm
- Music Studio - Section 1, Unit 1, Lesson 2 - Pitch Power
- Music Studio - There is an extra credit assessment, but no other graded work for you to complete this week. :)
- Attend Music Orientation on Thursday, 09/20, at 8:30am
