October 6, 2023
Message from East Hill Principal
Dear East Hill Elementary School Families,
We kicked off October this week but the weather felt more like July!
East Hill was so fortunate to host our First Responders Day this week! A HUGE thank you to Officer Clarke for planning and facilitating this incredible experience for our students. We also want to thank the following local agencies for visiting East Hill and teaching us more about how they serve our community - Fairmount Fire Department, WAVES, and the Syracuse and Camillus Police departments.
All of our students had wonderful smiles for the camera on Picture Day this week! Thank you to our PTA volunteers for facilitating this event. We ended the week with Paige's Pajamarama and helped raise money for a special cause. We have included pictures below!
Have a great weekend,
~Susan
Congratulations to this week's Wildcat WOW prize winners!
PARP begins on Tuesday! Check your student's backpack!
PARP (Pick A Reading Partner) kicks of on Tuesday! PARP is a statewide program administered by the PTA in partnership with East Hill teachers. The goal of PARP is to encourage parents and students to read together and to foster a lifelong love of reading in our children. At its core, PARP is about reading with our children. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to read with their child for 15 minutes each day. There are many fantastic activities planned for our children right here at East Hill! Reading together is what PARP is all about. Reading logs have been sent home in backpacks today!

We are still taking donations for our Jog-A-Thon fundraiser! We are at 83% of our goal. The donation page is open until 10/13. Don’t forget, the class with the most donations will win an ice cream party from the PTA! https://my.cheddarup.com/c/east-hill-jog-a-thon-2023?cart=d7ebbb8e-6ff7-4ed0-b426-5a1313d14358%21%2164591723&fbclid=IwAR0ag6IYAYffU6wISaG4-XLRJToL8rOEL-tLDxHGmLuSQFBvGtx3WnoAMkg
The Scholastic Book Fair is next week— the PTA is still looking for volunteers. Students will be going to “window shop” and create wish lists during class time on 10/11 and in-person sales will occur the evening of 10/11 and 10/12 from 4-7:30 p.m. Online ordering will also be open until 10/22! Sales from the book fair are how we fund and fill our Book Vending Machine, so that every student gets to pick a brand new book on their birthday— your purchases mean so much to us!
Our 3rd annual Pumpkin Walk is coming up on 10/19! Stay tuned for more details including when and where to drop off your carved pumpkins!
Every year the East Hill PTA creates classroom directories for our families. Each student will get a copy for their grade level. These directories can be used for families to contact each other to coordinate play dates, birthday parties, etc.
The information gathered is used for social purposes and not used for solicitation of any kind.
If you would like your information to be included in the directory please fill out this questionnaire by Monday, October 16th. If you’d prefer a paper copy please email us at wgehpta@westgenesee.org with your student’s name(s) and teacher(s) and we will send one home with them. Additionally, there will be paper copies in the main office of the school for you to pick up.
Last, but not least, there is still time to join the PTA! Membership does not commit you to volunteering at any events or attending meetings. It's truly the easiest way to support the programs that have a direct benefit to your child!

As always, email us with any questions you have or if you would like to volunteer at any of our events: wgehpta@gmail.com

West Genesee Special Education PTSA
Special Education PTAs (or SEPTAs) are designed to help parents advocate for special needs children. It is a place for parents and teachers to exchange information on various programs, funding, ever-changing state and federal laws and to support each other on the many problems of adjustment, growth, and development our members face. SEPTA has regular meetings just like any other PTA, with speakers to run lectures or workshops on many pressing issues for our children.
The West Genesee Special Education PTSA was founded on February 2, 2009, and represents students K-12 in the West Genesee School District. Membership is not restricted to parents/teachers/students enrolled in special education programs or receiving special services. It is open to any interested parent, teacher, student or administrator.
