Williamsburg Elementary School
Congratulations to Williamsburg Elementary School for earning the Exceeded Academic Growth Award for exceeding its goal of expected academic growth for the 2021-22 school year! Williamsburg Elementary Principal Dr. Leslie Coleman-Cassell received a plaque in recognition of the achievement from RCS Superintendent Shawn Stover at the January 9 RCS Board of Education meeting.

Our fifth grade students had an amazing time at the Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh! At Marbles, play is fun and educational, with innovative hands-on exhibits, award-winning programs and larger-than-life movie experiences!
Third grade students in Mrs. Medina's class used Oreo cookies to create a representation of all the moon phases! A tasty science activity!
Mrs. Canady's first grade class is currently doing research on Arctic Animals! They are so excited to completing their first research project!
Mrs. Staley's Kindergarten class is working hard to make their own addition number sentences by playing a class favorite, Shake & Spill!
Wentworth Elementary School

Mrs. Rowland’s class is having fun in guided reading centers! They were introduced a new writing center this week and loved it!
Our students enjoyed an engaging anti-bullying presentation by Mr. Jim Jordan! Our students had a great time and learned so much about being a good friend!
Stoneville Elementary School

Elementary School's PTO is the best! They transformed the media center into Whoville for a staff luncheon from Fursty's and Duck Donuts! Best of all, staff members got to have duty-free lunch!
Fourth grade students at Stoneville Elementary School compete in the first annual Cup Wars! With Mr. Keck leading the competition, all students had a fun time playing!
Students in Mrs. Meeks' class worked on crafts and enjoy reading by the “fireplace,” while students in Mrs. Vernon's Class enjoyed working together on holiday activities, and students in Mr. Velez's class enjoyed learning and working together!
Students in Mrs. Adkins' class made Gingerbread Man traps to try to catch the "Gingerbread Man Loose at School!” First grade students in Mrs. Adkins' class had a blast at their Grinch party!
Congratulations Mrs. Adkins! Stoneville Hospitality Committee hosted a baby shower for her! Stoneville Elementary School's newest Birthday Book Club members celebrated by choosing a new book for the library!

South End Elementary School

Thank you to Mr. Jones for all of the hard work you put in on our Holiday Concert! It was a huge success and the third, fourth, and fifth grade students did an outstanding job! We cannot wait to see what you all do next!
We had a wonderful time at our annual Drive thru "Holidays Around the World!” Students traveled to Mexico, Columbia, Sweden, Australia, and Japan receiving crafts and books along the way! It was a great time for all! Thanks to all who came out!

Jingle Jangle Family Event brought our community to campus for singing, dancing, and an art gallery. Hot cocoa and cookies made the evening even sweeter!

LSE first graders in Mrs. Sexton's class participated in "Santa's Workshop" before the Holiday break! Students made gifts in preparation and then earned money to buy the gifts for their families! When they "shopped," they took turns being the buyers and sellers!
We enjoyed our themed days counting down to winter break! Thank you to Mrs. Minuci for starting off our winter break with a paint party!

Huntsville Elementary School

The Greensboro News and Record recently put together a feature on the grant Huntsville Elementary School received from Lowe’s Home Improvement for its new Outdoor Classroom!
Shout out to Huntsville's 2023 EBOB Team who is hard at work preparing for this year's Battle of the Books Competition!
Students from the Huntsville were treated to an anti-bullying assembly that aligns with Rockingham County's message of, "Unapologetically Kind." Students learned about how to make their school the best and safest school around! The presenter used magic, story telling, and role play to teach students what bullying looks like, how to handle it, and how to help others, too! The presenter gave a special shout out to our second graders and said they were the best group of second graders he's ever had!
Huntsville Elementary School recently received a bountiful food donation from AT&T to their Back Pack Program, which they have pledged to support through the rest of the school year! This is just an example of great business partner support!
Students in Mrs. William’s second grade class celebrated their learning of place value! One of the activities for their place value party was making a noble number crown. Their crown had their number represented in base ten blocks, and they had to write it in standard, expanded, and word form. Students then worked collaboratively to compare their numbers and line up from least to greatest!
Mrs. Joyce's first grade class hosted a publishing party to celebrate the completion of their narrative writing unit. Students began this in November with the “Disguise a Turkey” project. They completed the project and then created a story about their turkey that escaped. The kids worked so hard on this and we have excellent writers in first grade! They loved reading and sharing their writing with their own parents and their peer’s parents; as well!
A big Shout Out to a thoughtful PreK friend who helped to make a classmate smile and feel special! Gunner, a student in Mrs. Rebecca's class, took the time to draw a picture of another student’s favorite thing, which is books! Gunner was so excited to share the picture with his classmate, he even asked how to spell his name! His friend was off sitting by himself and Gunner excitedly showed him the picture, and once he saw it, his friend was smiling from ear to ear! What a thoughtful way to brighten someone's day and make them feel loved!
Talan Corum competed in the Rockingham County Schools district Science Fair on December 2. His project, The Biggest Bubble, won first place for fourth grade in the category of Physics and Mathematics! For this project Talan tested five different brands of Bubble Gum to see which one blew the biggest bubble! He will compete in the Regional Science Fair in Greensboro NC on February 11!
Douglass Elementary School

On January 4th, all our students at Douglass Elementary participated in PBIS round ups! Students went to different stations to learn about how to SOAR in the cafeteria, on the bus, bathrooms, playground, and for assemblies and dismissal!

The Grinch came to visit our Eagles on Wednesday before Christmas break! We had another visitor in our hallways and classrooms! Thank you to Santa Eric Smith for bringing so many smiles!
Mrs. Slaughter’s fifth grade class created plans for a tiny winter home in a cold climate and used persuasive writing to explain why their design is the best!

RCS School Nurse Dian Brim recently conducted an interview with Jinny Edwards of SOAR as part of The Rockingham County Education Foundation’s 12 Days of Education, presented by Gildan. Dian discussed how the SOAR Fund, sponsored by RCEF, has assisted her over the past several months. The interview is linked below:
RCS has had another wonderful Holiday season shutdown across the district, and we have everyone to thank. All RCS sites participated and were 100 percent compliant! Moreover, there were some standout schools that gave an above-and-beyond shutdown effort! Thank you as well. This is a notable achievement, and RCS salutes the efforts of our instructors to go above and beyond to improve their skills!

We were so excited to have our RCS Anti-Bullying parent night program by Jim Jordan from http://reportbullying.com at Wentworth Elementary School the evening of Tuesday, January 10! He shared with our families about bullying prevention and anti bullying strategies! It was a great evening! Mr. Jordan also participated in a series of programs at our elementary schools, teaching our kids about ways to prevent bullying behavior!
