Last spring the entire School District 123 community participated in a Thought Exchange. The following video explains the ways that School District 123 uses the thoughts, feedback, and information gathered from Thought Exchange questions like the question from the Spring of 2022.

November 12 - Community Leaf Raking

District 123 to Host Annual Leaf Raking Day on Nov 12

Don't miss the 2022 Community Leaf Raking Event happening on November 12, 2022. All volunteers should report to OLHMS at 9am. Last year more than 120 volunteers came out to rake leaves for the elderly and those otherwise not able to do so in the Oak Lawn and Hometown Communities.

District 123 launches the Safe2Help crisis reporting system

District 123 has partnered with Safe2Help Illinois to give students a safe and confidential way to report potential threats or crises. Safe2Help was launched by the State of Illinois in December 2020 and aims to help prevent suicide, bullying, school violence and other threats to school safety. Breaking News! Cougar News Club Is Here!

Fifth graders have been busy planning, reporting, filming and directing to produce our very first Cougar News video for students to enjoy during our morning announcements. Cougar News Club is our latest club at Covington and students have the opportunity to participate in all of the different roles of the production process.

Un-be-LEAF-able Creations

Leaves are beginning to cover the ground and the feeling of fall is in the air. That could only mean one thing for Mrs. Burns' second graders; it's time to make leaf animals! Students collected leaves and used them to make various animals. This hands-on activity was used for a writing assignment.

OLHMS Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

Students and staff at OLHMS participated in a "PINK" day to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. The halls of OLHMS were decorated with pink signs and everyone wore their favorite pink outfit. Staff brought in pink treats to enjoy including pink lemonade, pink cookies, pink cupcakes, pink candy, and more!

D123 Retirement Luncheon

Last Friday, the D123 Retirement Luncheon was held in the newly renovated Media Center at OLHMS! Every year, our wonderful and supportive Ed Foundation sponsors the retirement luncheon to honor our former teachers who have dedicated countless years to the field of education and our school district.

Stupendous New Staff

Over at Kolmar there are a lot of new staff members, and they all have been absolute rock stars! We have 6 new classroom teachers, a new technology support staff, and a new nurse! Each and every one of them has transitioned into their new positions flawlessly and is a wonderful added bonus to our Kolmar team.

Parent Mentor Partnership

We are so lucky at Sward School to have an amazing partnership with the Arab American Family Services. Our parent mentor program is back again this year and classroom teachers really appreciate having these helpers in their classrooms. Parent helpers are working alongside teachers in the classrooms Mondays-Thursdays 9-11am, on Fridays they attend trainings on student mentoring.

Unity Day- We stand against bullying

On Wednesday, October 19, 2022 District 123 schools joined together to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Students wore the color orange to send a visible message that no child should ever experience bullying. Research shows that more than one out of every five students will be bullied in school this year (www.pacer.org).
