Standard: RL 3.7 Explain how specific aspects of a text's illustrations contribute to what is conveyed by the words in a story. (Create Mood or Emphasize aspects of a character or setting.

Lesson Summary: Students in Mrs. Calvert's 3rd grade class broke into small groups to zoom in on different texts. They focused on how the words and illustrations supported the mood, setting, and characters in the story.

These Greg Tang math puzzles are great for your early finishers, or enrichment activities. There are a lot of opportunities for students to discuss how they are problem solving. Some of these activities are great for mental math as well.

If you're struggling to get your students to have worthwhile discussions without it sounding like either absolute chaos or crickets chirping, try some of these academic conversation sentence starters. Have students work in pairs first to practice with the stems, then in a small group before extending it to whole class discussion. As students use the sentence starters, their conversations will become richer and more focused.

Typito is a simple tech alternative to iMovie. You can create simple videos, just by uploading footage into the site. From there, you can add text, images, etc. to make your video stand out.
