Grade Level Happenings
K – 2 Nurturing
1st grade math ~ Students are working on their problem solving skills through a program called Math Stars. Students complete a Math Stars sheet in class, and bring one home each week.
1st grade reading ~ Students are practicing with analogies, advanced literature, and reading puzzles.
2nd grade reading ~ Students are learning about nonfiction text features, and are continuing to write their own nonfiction book.
2nd grade math ~ Students are continuing to work on their problem solving skills through a program called Math Stars.
WBS Chess Club still meets from 8:30-9:15 every Friday.
The Chess Tournament is currently scheduled for Wednesday, May 29th at 9:15.
3rd Grade
Math Group - Financial Literacy study
Math/Reading Group - continuing Amazing Shapes Unit (Interact Unit). We will also be reading various nonfiction materials related to our unit of study. Students recently studied Euclid! Ask your child about the Father of Geometry.
Reading Group - Voice For Animals Unit
We have missed a couple of sessions because of meetings or other interruptions. The classes missed will be made up during our last couple of weeks.
4th Grade and 5th Grade
4th Grade Reading - Short Story Writing in class. Students are not required to work on this at home.
4th Grade Math - Financial Literacy including Entrepreneurship and Advanced EOG Review
5th Grade Reading - Song Lyric Poetry
5th Grade Math -Advanced EOG Review and mini project-based learning activities during the pull-out sessions.

WBS Parent Advisory (WAPA)
Our final meeting will be held Friday, May 3rd.
If you are interested in being a part of the WBS Parent Advisory for the 2013-2014 school year please let the GES know.
New Hanover County Gifted Advisory Council
Thank you to Beth Johnson and Louisa Lee for volunteering to represent WBS at the NHC Gifted Advisory Council for Gifted Students.
If you are interested in serving on this council for the 2013-2014 school year please let the GES know. Meetings are held once a month at 6:00pm.
The NHCS Gifted Advisory Council asks each school to select a liaison to attend the monthly GAC meetings. The liaison’s responsibilities include: monthly meeting attendance and reporting notes and relevant issues to the school. The meeting schedule is listed below. All meetings will be located at the Spencer Board building. A liaison can be a teacher, parent, or community member. The job of liaison may be shared by 2 people at the school, and attendance at the meetings can be alternated.
