Digital Safety Tip: Passwords
last updated 10/8/2020
Choose Strong Passwords
Include the following:
- At least 8 characters
- A number
- A special character (%, #, @, ?)
- Upper and lower case letters
- NO PERSONAL INFORMATION
Keep Your Password Safe
- Don't leave your password written down where others can find it.
- If you need to keep a list, keep it in a secure location (password protected file, built-in secure locations on your device, or via third-party software).
- Avoid using the same password for multiple accounts, this can leave you open to security issues if your password is discovered.
Log Off OR Lock Your Device
- Always make sure to log off of shared computers.
- If you have a dedicated laptop or computer, be sure to Lock the machine (press the Windows button & the L key at the same time) if you will be away from your computer.
Two-factor authentication is a method of confirming a user's identity by utilizing something they know (password) and a second factor, usually a special code generated and sent to the user.
