Dear Bulldog Family,
September is THE month we are encouraging every Georgia taxpayer in the Bulldog Nation to send some state tax dollars to our great school to provide student scholarships. Now is the time! It takes less than a minute to complete the form (linked below) and apply.
Do I send all my state tax payments to Atlanta or some to GWA? The following information (click HERE) is designed to help taxpayers understand the Georgia GOAL program. Our students benefit when you make the right decision!
Thanks for helping GWA break $1 million in 2024 Georgia GOAL scholarship support. We can do it!
One Dawg Strong,
John D. Marshall
Head of School
Big Energy
Dr. Dibble’s Chemistry classes produced acetylene gas by reacting calcium carbide with water to launch the “Mole” cannon. This powerfully explosive gas was used to propel various objects from a cannon built out of PVC pipe. Students learned about the energy stored in molecules as well as what it means to be a clean fuel.
Toga, Toga!
Last Friday, Ms. Pickens' Latin students enjoyed Toga Day. After learning about Roman clothing styles and the manufacture of purple dye earlier in the week, students were asked to bring in bedsheets on Friday. Working in groups of three (two to fold and drape the sheet and one to be dressed), students helped one another get into their togas. The humble bedsheets were folded and draped in the traditional Roman style to create togas with stately folds and the austere air that Roman statesmen were known for.
Tax Time
Mrs. Johnson's U.S. History class has been focusing on the causes of the American Revolution. Using Skittles as currency, King Johnson made students pay ridiculous "taxes" to show the unfair treatment by Great Britain during the 1700s and how it led to the start of the American Revolution.
Congratulations, Journey!
Journey Allen was invited to speak at the annual Georgia Laws of Life Teacher & Rotarian Workshop Luncheon last Friday, Sept. 15, at the Emory Conference Center. She read her third place state-winning essay to an audience of teachers and Rotarians. Her paper was one of over 33,000 student submissions during the 2022-2023 school year. Well done, Journey!
Integrity Matters
This week, upper school students went through the Honor Code Ceremony during advisory. Just as we did in middle school last week, students were taught about the importance of living an honorable life and how holding a high standard of integrity elevates our school, community, and ourselves. Upper school students were also encouraged to be leaders for the lower grades and to set the example. To conclude the ceremony, each student and teacher signed the honor code to symbolize their commitment to be courageous in the pursuit of integrity. These honor codes will be displayed as a reminder of our commitment.
