Haw River Hype

Lion Cub families, can you believe we are 5 days from Winter Break? Our students have been showing so much growth from the first day of school until now! Their growth and progress in their academics and leadership skills are impressive. When we return in January, we will be moving forward, full speed ahead, so over break, encourage your students to read, practice mental math, and demonstrate their leadership skills, so they return prepared to continue our learning journey on the road to mastery. We are incredibly proud of our Lion Cub Leaders!

This week our students will continue taking and completing their i-Ready Diagnostic in reading and math to show us what they have learned this year. We have asked our students to set goals to show how much they have grown. Please talk with your students about their goals and ask them how they feel about their progress. Students will earn growth points contributing to our school Data Super Bowl to see which House can grow the most this year! Students can also earn House Points and Cub Currency for their growth, so they must focus and do their best!

• Monday 12/12- Blizzard Day- Whiteout! (Bring on the Snow! Wear as much white as possible)
• Tuesday 12/13- Jingle Bell Bling (wear bells, shiny colors or tinsel)
• Wednesday 12/14- Holiday Headgear (or any hat)
• Thursday 12/15- Wear Flannel or Plaid
• Friday 12/16- CLUB DAY PJ Day
• WINTER BREAK 12/19-1/2
• Families may come to each lunch with your students. Please reach out to your child's teacher to let them know you are coming so they can plan for seating. Remember: NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK MAY BE BROUGHT IN. Upon arrival, please sign in at the front office and get a visitor's tag.

*Not all students have taken or completed their i-Ready Diagnostic, so these are preliminary. After all students have completed them, House Points and Cub Currency will be awarded to students.

During this season of giving, there is no greater gift you can give than your own time. Volunteering your time at our school would be a great gift! We are currently looking for volunteers to help with our duty-free lunch. All volunteers must have a background check on file before they can volunteer.

One of the principles of this habit is to say no to things we know we should not do. For example, if your child is invited to play with a friend and they have not completed their homework, they should be reminded that to put first things first means to work first and then play. This teaches children how to prioritize and delay gratification, a skill that we need to have as an adult.

Please talk with your child about how they can put first things first at home and school.

In first place is Empatia with 3338 points. The points leader for this school year is Alexis H., in 2nd grade. The points leaders for last week were Kaydence D., in 1st grade, and Kelsey T., in 1st grade. The points leader for the second nine weeks is Alexis H., in 2nd grade!
