So much has been happening in the Centerburg Choir world the first quarter of the school year!

The high school Concert choir participated in the Inaugural Fall Choral Exchange Concert hosted by Olentangy Berlin HS. The concert featured Olentangy Berlin, Heath, Johnathan Alder and Centerburg High school's choirs. All 4 schools are directed by teachers who graduated from Otterbein University. Also, featured on that concert was the Otterbein Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Gayle Walker. Dr. Walker was one of my professors in college and I was a part of the Concert Choir along with some of the other directors during college. Each group had a masterclass with Dr. Walker where she worked with them on the music for the concert that evening. It was an incredible experience and a highlight for me was getting to sing the Otterbein Love Song with the Concert Choir. The finale of the concert was a piece performed by all of the perticipating groups! It was a wonderful day of music making!

October and November brought Honor Choir opportunities to select middle and high school students. Some attended an honor choir day at Otterbein University while others were part of the OMEA District X Honor Choir. Both events were great! Having the opportunity to work with some of the top names in the choral world is something that helps to elevate our choral program. It is my pleasure to coordinate the District X choir and all of the directors agreed that this was one of the best years yet. Particularly the middle school honor choir received high praise from all of the teachers and clinicians. I highly encourage students to apply for honor choir experiences, they are incredibly unique experiences that show they the best of the choral world.

The Music Boosters are running a fundraiser for all band and choir students grades 6-12. The students are selling Anthony Thomas Candy Bars for $1.00 each. We have already handed out over 4,000 candy bars and students are continuing to sell more! The goal is to sell 12,000 and after the first week we are a third of the way there! Keep up the great work!

All of the choirs are working hard to prepare for the December Concert Series.

The 6th Grade Singers have been focusing a lot of canons, folk songs, and part singing. Their concert "When Sweet Winter Comes Again" will feature some songs that show off the skills they've been conquering during class.

The 7th and 8th grade choir members are divided into 3 different ensembles; Men's Chorus, Treble Chorus, and 7/8 TIme Mixed Ensemble. For the December concert the men are preparing a Christmas spiritual, the women have been working on a song with marvelous text painting of snow beginning to fall, and all of them preparing two songs to perform together. All of them have been advancing so much in their musicality! I'm excited for them to present their concert for you!

The high school Concert Choir has been working together to present some anthems and carols old and new. They will be singing Silent Night, a carol which is celebrating it's 200th anniversary this year. Also, new this year we will debut the Middle C Choir! This group is an auditioned group of elite high school choir members who serve as ambassadors of the choral program to our community and beyond! This group is preparing more advanced repertoire that they will perform at our concert and in the community. Middle C will also be singing a Polar Express Medley with the Concert Band.
