SMS Weekly Update
October 20, 2023
Dear Archers,
Our Freaky Friday family event is happening today at 5:00 pm.
Enter if you dare... Through the SMS Activities Entrance, and explore the Spooktacular sights, delicious treats, and exciting games.
Students must show their I.D. or StudentVue (no exceptions) along with their dance ticket upon reentry for the student dance, happening from 8pm to 9:30pm.
Important reminder: Non-Medical, costume masks are not permitted at tonight's event due to safety concerns. All weapons and look-alikes, such as squirt guns, may not be brought, possessed, used, or hidden on school property.
We hope you will join us for this night of festivities!
Earlier this week the PE team partnered with our PSO and put on the first annual Monster Dash. Students completed an obstacle course out on the track with parent volunteers hiding and jumping out in order to surprise students. It was such a treat to watch and the students had a blast!
It has also been fun to continue to see the exciting options that students are choosing for Flex. We love enjoying the Eras Tour excitement that Suzanne Gilmer is bringing to the counseling center. Angi Scott's class enjoyed Playdough and movie time, and Brittany Patterson hosted watercolors.
Take a look at some highlight photos below.

Builders Club
We had a great initial Builders Club turnout and are looking forward to keeping the momentum going. The Builders Club is a casual, friendly place for middle school students to gain leadership experience and engage in volunteer opportunities throughout our local and global community. Participants will also have the opportunity to be part of Kiwanis, an international volunteer organization that continues into high school and beyond.
We had some additional information that we would like to share with you, especially because some of the dates are fast approaching.

Students staying after school must complete the linked Builders Club permission form.
Lost and Found Update
The Builders Club recently tackled our school’s Lost & Found.
If your student is missing a favorite hoodie, jacket, water bottle, or lunch box, encourage them to check the newly organized lost and found in the lower commons.
8th Grade East Coast Trip this June 2024
We visit historical sites in NYC, Washington DC & Pennsylvania, as well as go to a baseball game and a Broadway play. This is truly a great trip; one where memories are made, 8th graders expand their knowledge of the world around them, and so many sites are seen!
Flyers are available in the front office. You can also email smsgoeseast@gmail.com for more information. Deadline to register is November 1. We need a minimum of 20 students to sign-up or the trip could be potentially cancelled.
This is a non-school sponsored event.
Student of the Month Breakfast - November 3rd
Veteran's Day Breakfast
Sherwood Middle School Leadership is inviting you to celebrate a Veteran in your life. On Thursday, November 9th, there will be Sherwood Middle School's continued tradition of a Veteran's Day Breakfast; where we can recognize and celebrate those who have served in our Armed Forces.
Whether you have a relative, or even a close family friend, we encourage you to take this opportunity. If you don't know anyone personally who has served, a student can still have the chance to adopt a Veteran of our Sherwood Community.
Please take a look at the Veterans Day Brunch slide show (linked here) for more information and how you can sign up to be a part of this amazing event! On the last slide of the presentation will be links where you can sign a Veteran up for the breakfast, or opt to volunteer to adopt a Veteran for the breakfast.
We look forward to celebrating the amazing Veterans of our community with you!
