A Great Time Was Had By All! Thank You PTO!
Alaska Reads Act
At the Town Hall meeting on August 23 we were able to go over the Mission/Vision statement for Anderson-Crawford Elementary School and had an excellent presentation of the Alaska Reads Act by FNSB School District's Elementary Curriculum Coordinator, Mackenzie Staiger. She did a great job of explaining the requirements of the Alaska Reads Act, which include additional instruction and assistance for students who need more time with reading.
This week at school we are working to measure student reading achievement with our mClass assessment. The window for these assessments is September 11-22. This will give us great information about what students need to make the best growth in reading.
After we have assessment information we will assign students to appropriate Walk to Read groups and each child will spend 30 minutes daily in those groups, in addition to the 90 minutes of reading instruction they receive from their grade level teacher. We plan to be able to place students by the end of September, and begin instruction by October 2.When we have composed these groups we will let you know who will be working with your student for that period of time.
Kindergarten students will not be placed in additional groups until January.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
See you in the car line!

Drop Off and Pick-up
K-1 parents, please take a moment to review the placard you received for student dismissal and pick up. Security Forces was very helpful and suggested we have parents turn right on to Ravens way. When we have cars turning left from the K-1 pickup line it causes everyone to have to wait and unnecessary crossing of traffic coming out of the loop drive line. These dismissal procedures have been in the newsletter every week and are printed on your placards; Pull up to the curb near the office door and your child will be called to the car. After your child joins you please turn left. Exit the parking lot by turning RIGHT onto RAVENS WAY.
With drop off, please read the drop off procedures linked with the dismissal procedures. Please drop students off for precess and breakfast in the Loop Drive. All students should enter the playground for precess by walking through the building from the loop drive. Please review the drop off/dismissal procedures for K-1, drop off/dismissal procedures for 2-5.
