AVA Family Update

AVA Family UpdateAugust 31, 2023

Good morning AVA Students and Families,

It's always an adventure in the first few days with so many new logins for various platforms and technology that doesn't always deliver as it promises, but from my perspective virtually all of our students should have the information they need to really get going on their school work. If your perception doesn't match mine, please alert me immediately.

I have next week's schedule for you below, as well as important information about PSATs, a note about our Back to School Night, and Senior Planning and Financial Aid Night in our guidance update.

Lastly, School Picture Day is September 20th. AVA students are not required to have a school picture, but are welcome to come in if they want one. For students in grades 9-11, this is the picture you will need to have to be included in our yearbook. For Seniors, this picture cannot be used for the yearbook. I will have more information on Senior photos in the next months, and if you are in grades 9-11 and can't make it on the 20th, there will be a make-up day in October. Just shoot me an email if you plan on coming that day so I can coordinate with the AHS photographer.

We are back at 7:15 on Tuesday. I hope all our students enjoy the 4 day weekend.

Thank you for your time.

Next Week's Class Meeting Schedule

Although not a full week, the schedule linked below will be a taste of what our normal schedule looks like. For those returning, we will have way fewer 8 period days, and our rotation most of the time will be to alternate between odd and even days.

PSAT Opportunity - 10th Grade and Others

The PSAT has gone digital this year, and we are planning to test AHS students on October 18. They have given us a window this year so we can do AVA students on or about the same date. Although digital, it requires students physical presence in our building.

All 10th graders can take the test for free, and any student in any grade can take the test for $20. The turnaround time is short on this, so I need to know if you are interested by the morning of Wednesday, September 6th if you want to take it.

AVA Back to School Night

For those new to us, our Back to School Night is like a virtual open house. Google meet links and times will be distributed on the morning of the 14th (so it's at the top of everyone's inbox) and you will be able to hear from me, the teachers, and our guidance counselor. These are not parent conferences (those are in January) but you will get a chance to meet virtually with all of our staff. Save the date and stay tuned.

Guidance Updates

Senior Planning and Financial Aid Night:

Wednesday, September 27 at 6:00 pm in Bray Auditorium

This year we are combining Senior Planning Night hosted by the Guidance Department and Financial Aid Night hosted by financial aid representatives from Roger Williams University. Guidance will share information on the upcoming college, military, and career process with families beginning at 6:00 pm. The Financial Aid presentation will begin directly after the Guidance presentation. Seniors are highly encouraged to attend with their families.

AHS College and Career Fair Thursday, September 21

We are so excited to be hosting our first college and career fair for senior students during the school day in our new building! Please see the latest list of attendees, and check back for additions: List of Colleges & Universities Attending College Fair

College and Career Visits

Visits are added frequently -- sometimes just after we send our updates -- so please refer to the College and Career Visits 2023-2024 document and be sure to see How to Sign Up for College Visits on Naviance.

Application Fee Waivers: Please see Colleges with no application fees for a listing of colleges with no application fees. It’s beneficial to check back frequently, as we will be updating this throughout the year.
