D-West Instruction
9th Grade Orientation: All freshmen received a two-step orientation through their Language Arts and History classes. They completed a really fun Goosechase scavenger hunt to learn "how we roll" in the library, and then participated in a tech session co-taught by Mrs. Nass and Mrs. Hunt,
Green Screen Use: Our green screen was used by our Spanish III classes to record group projects and by our transition classes for headshots.
Independent Reading Selection: We worked with four separate groups: 10th grade LA book pass, 9th grade LA general book pass, 9th grade hero cycle book pass, and our AP Language students on book selection. For each group, we pulled a selected group of books (by genre, level, and theme) for the students to explore.
1920's Magazine Project: We worked with the 11th grade history classes on this project. Our focus this year was on finding and utilizing peer-reviewed sources.
English 12 Bucket List: We worked with the English 12 classes on their bucket list projects, focusing on how to use Noodletools to create citations from web sources.
AP Research- Our AP Research class came in for their introductory session to our databases.
AP Seminar- Our AP Seminar class came in for a database scavenger hunt.
English 10 History and Nature of Prejudice- We began the History and Nature of Prejudice projects with our English 10 classes.
English 11 Breakout- We hosted an English 11 class for their Breakout EDU activity.
Lunch and Learns Start @ Your Library
Collaboration, Professional Development, and Meetings
Collaboration with West Teachers
- Worked with a 9th grade advisory and their teacher on the creation of a graduation project for the students to complete in conjunction with a community project in Downingtown Borough.
- Met with a Spanish language teacher on how to best utilize our Spanish language tools and databases for her class's research needs.
- Met with an English 10 teacher to design instruction for an upcoming unit.
- Met with the new AP Research teacher to assess our existing resources and discuss areas where we could develop resources for her classes.
- Met with an English 11 teacher to design a new research project for our 11-02 classes centered around career/college and their future goals.
- Met with guidance counselors and our career center coordinator to plan a lunch and learn centered around college admissions.
- Met with our instructional coach to plan this month's lunch and learn opportunity.
Professional Development
- Participated in sessions on technology tools, on Google tools, and on the Adobe suite to improve instruction and offerings in the library.
Committees and Meetings
- SAS Team meetings: Monday and Wednesdays, period 5
- PAC Team meetings
- Met with DASD: Future Ready Libraries committee to define the scope of the committee and begin strengthening and crafting vision statements.

Makerspace: Strawbees, Collaborative Art and K'nex Ferris Wheel
Library Club
- Senior Tulasi Nidamarthy is continuing a Reading Olympics team through Library Club. We had 10 students sign up to be initial members of this team and they are meeting monthly.
- Annabelle Liechty has taken the lead on our writer's club. They had their first meeting and are looking forward to a good year.
- Book club has chosen their first round book: To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han (also a popular Netflix movie).

Our Mission
The mission of the library program in the Downingtown Area School District is to provide a dynamic learning environment that instills essential 21st century literacy skills through direct and collaborative instruction and the use of a wide variety of print and digital resources. Our goal is to ensure that students have the opportunity to become inquiring and engaged global citizens who are empowered to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.
