This information is for all of the current 6th graders at Hellstern
Students are required to have a semester of:
- fine arts (band, choir, art, adv. art, drama, or stagecraft)
- technology (Keycode, EAST, coding, or media tech) - many students took this in 6th grade
- Physical Education (any athletics or PE)

Athletics
*Remember - all AAA athletic tryouts REQUIRE a current physical using the AAA form
Boys Basketball
- Tryouts for the 24-25 season will be conducted on April 15th at 3:30pm in the Hellstern gym.
- Get a physical and bring a copy to tryouts.
Those who make the team will be expected to participate in practices that will take place after school and during small portions of the summer. We want a balanced student-
athlete!

Girls Basketball
- We will have skill development sessions during Primetime in March and April. These sessions will be open to 6th graders, but academic primetime is priority and must be attended.
- Tryouts will be held April 3rd from 2:30-4:00pm in the HMS gym.
- You must have three teacher recommendations submitted to Coach Waters and the AAA physical form completed in order to try out. Physical forms will be collected on the tryout date in April. Please see Coach Waters for an information packet with an introductory letter and teacher recommendation forms.
- Those who make the team must commit to participating in summer team camps, as well as practicing three days per week this summer.

Volleyball
- Tryouts will be March 11th & 12th @ Central Jr. High from 4:30-6.
- Must attend both days.
- Must bring a physical to tryouts.
- Join the volleyball google classroom page: g66fs4d and fill out tryout form.
- We will have skill development to help prepare for try-outs during primetime towards the end of February/March. Academic primetime is a priority.
- Those who make the team must commit to attend practice and team camps in the summer.
- We will practice M-F 8:30-10 starting July 8th.

Football

- Fill out the football questionnaire that has been posted to the classroom stream.

Mandatory practices will begin in June and a possible parent meeting in May. Exact dates of camps 7on7s and workouts will come out in April. AAA dead weeks are from June 22-July 7 (no practices or competitions). This is the best time to schedule vacations if possible.
We will be sending out a link in the coming weeks to purchase workout apparel that will be used for summer workouts and into the season.

Fine Arts
Advanced Art
Advanced Art: Advanced Art is designed for students who have a solid background in basic art skills and techniques through taking 6th grade Art and the drive and passion to make art even when it is not required as an assignment. This course will encourage students to dive deeper into their own individual style of art making, begin experimenting with and combining new mediums, and pushing previously used mediums even further. Mediums may include, paint, clay, oil pastel, paper mache, graphite/colored pencils, digital editing tools, hand-sewing materials, and more. Knowledge of art elements and principles should be evident in student's compositions, as well as a solid understanding of the importance of craftsmanship. Please understand that spots are limited for Advanced Art, but all students that are interested and up for a challenge are encouraged to apply!

Stagecraft
Stagecraft is a super fun look into all the behind-the-scenes magic in Drama and Theatre! You'll learn about set-building, prop-making, lighting, sound, special effects make-up, and so much more!

Technology & Project Electives
EAST
EAST is a self directed class. Students solve problems in their community using the over $250,000 of professional level hardware and software. Students will also learn soft skills along the way! If you like teaching yourselves anything or figuring out problems this is your class. We have software from Adobe to ArcGIS. We also have fun things like 3d printers and arduinos. This class maintains a high standard of work ethic and projects that are sophisticated, have lots of community collaboration and always require student growth.

CODING:
Learn about Physical computing through making and design
Learn the basics of a few common coding languages (Possibilities: Scratch, MakeCode, Javascript, Python)
Platforms we may use: Circuit Playground Express, Hummingbird Duo, MakeCode Arcade, Lego EV3, and more…
MEDIA TECH:
This class is an introduction to Graphic Design, Photography, Podcasting, and Videography. You will learn and use these skills to help create our school’s Yearbook and work on media projects.
EXPLORATION OF SKILLED TRADES:
Exploration of Skilled Trades is a course that is designed to introduce and explore fundamental concepts common to all skilled trade professions. This course will use project-based learning to strengthen and reinforce the skills of Safety, Technical Mathematics, Reading, Reasoning, Estimation, and Career Exploration.
