Communicating Student Progress
With the new reporting order, AIP inserts are no longer recommended by the Ministry of Education. Therefore, there are a few changes to how case managers will communicate progress starting this year. Please refer to the documents below for guidance.
AIPs on Parent Connect
Just a reminder that Sections A, B, C and D of the current year's Annual Instructional Plans (AIPs) for students on our caseloads will be viewable by parents/guardians via Parent Connect as of November 10, 2023. This will be a pdf copy that is uploaded every few months. A paper copy of the full AIP has always been available upon request for parents/guardians in students' permanent school files in the school office.
Guidelines for all ELL Teachers
For all SD61 ELL teachers who provide supplemental language support from K-12, please refer to the document below on Guidelines for Communicating Progress on AIP goals.
The links below contain instructions specific to K-8 (elementary and middle) and 9-12 (secondary) ELL teachers/case managers on where and how to communicate our students’ learning to parents/caregivers. Please reach out to Jen Barber directly by phone or email with questions.
Reminder about Remembrance Day
This time of year brings events and assemblies related to Remembrance Day, and we wanted to share an important reminder to school staff to approach these events with a trauma-informed lens. Some of our newcomers to Canada who have arrived from war-torn countries may be triggered by images such as soldiers, weapons, or war footage. If parents are concerned, speak with the counsellor or ELL teacher about offering an alternative activity for students from war-torn countries during the assembly time. They could instead do activities or games with a teacher during the assembly, so that they are not confused or concerned.
