October is Fire Prevention Month

Friday, October 13 is Fire Prevention day

• Fire departments and the emergency squad in the towns of Saratoga and Northumberland will be participating in a Fire Prevention and Educational Day at the elementary school.
• Students, faculty, and staff will participate in a fire drill simulation. Firefighters will be visiting 2nd and 5th grade classrooms to review fire safety rules with children. All UPK-Grade 5 students will be given a fire truck tour. Kindergarten classes will be educated on fire safety while visiting the Schuyler Hose Company Fire House where they will be given a tour and fire prevention packets.
• All grade levels will have the opportunity to interact with firefighters and learn about the important equipment used by firefighters. Educating children about fire safety is one of the most important functions of fire service.
  
• Thank you to the members of the Schuyler Hose Company, Victory Mills Fire Department, Quaker Springs Fire Department, Gansevoort Fire Department, and Wilton EMS for presenting the assemblies and giving the fire truck tour.

Elementary Spirit Week is October 16-20th!

We invite students to participate in spirit week. We will release themes closer to the week.

Parents as Education Partners (PEP) will be meeting on October 3 and October 11 to plan for the Trunk or Treat Event held on October 30. Meetings are in the Elementary Library from 6 pm - 7 pm. Join the fun!

1. Fire Prevention Month, check your alarms at home and create a family safety plan in case of an emergency
2. Going to a pumpkin patch?! Discuss and compare the weight, sizes, and shapes of the pumpkins and gourds you see.
3. While you are "Leaf Peaking" discuss the colors your child notices and make predictions about why leaves turn the colors that they do. Here are 18 fun Leaf Investigations to do at home.
