Bethel Springs Elementary School

The Garnet Valley elementary schools (BSES, CES, and GVES) hosted an Open House at the end of August. We are asking parents and guardians to complete this survey to help us evaluate and enhance the event for future years.

The Bethel Township Police Department will participate with the students at Bethel Springs Elementary School for the 22nd Annual Operation Safe Stop on October 24, 2018. On this day, they will assign officers to ride the buses along with the children. The officers can collect information of violators and work with the children, providing safety information during the ride.

Operation Safe Stop is a proactive approach to educate the motoring public that passing a stopped school bus, when children are loading or unloading, is both dangerous and illegal. Law enforcement agencies, school transportation providers, pupil transportation associations, and PennDOT have combined their efforts to raise public awareness about the potential consequences and reduce the occurrence of illegal school bus passes.

In addition to this date, Bethel Police will take additional bus rides with the children beginning October 22, 2018 through October 30, 2018. Since Halloween is approaching, Bethel Township Police Department would like to hand out custom Halloween trick or treat bags with safety tips for the children. Officers will be at some of the bus stops in the mornings to ride the bus to Bethel Springs Elementary School. They will attempt to ride all routes, however, this may not be possible due to time and coverage.

On Monday, October 29th from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Bethel Springs Elementary there will be a combined Home and School Association meeting for all three GV elementary schools. The purpose of the meeting is to provide parents with an opportunity to receive information on important school-related topics. Topics will be varied and parents can choose two 30-minute sessions (7-7:30;7:30-8). Registration closes on Thursday, October 25th. There will be plenty to do for grown-ups and kids alike! Our main goals will be clearing the pathways of fallen leaves and clearing out any plant growth that is obstructing the path or blocking signage along the trail. Please bring any tools that may help us accomplish these goals. Rakes will be the most useful tools. Gardening gloves will be a good idea for everyone as well as weather appropriate clothing and shoes or boots that can get wet or muddy.There will be a brief instructional chat at the start of the morning which will also include tips for being safe on the trail.

The Helping Hand Club/Student Council at Bethel Springs is hosting a Socktober Sock Drive to benefit an area homeless shelter. We will be collecting NEW SOCKS ONLY of all sizes from now until 10/31. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby at Bethel Springs anytime!

The BSES Helping Hands Club

When picking up for after school activities like Band, Orchestra, Helping Hands, etc. please be patient and exercise caution. It is important to move slowly as you navigate the parking lot.

We want to make sure that all are safe as students are dismissed. Thank you for your help!

Our Halloween parties will be conducted by our Homeroom parents on Wednesday, October 31st. Parties for grade 1 ill take place at 1:00PM. Parties for grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 will take place at 2:00 PM. Students may wear costumes for their parties. Send the costumes in with students that morning. Students should be able to put costumes on with little or no assistance. Costumes should be safe and appropriate for school, nothing violent or gory in nature. Thank you!

The BSES Helping Hands Club continues its annual tradition of trick-or-treating for UNICEF. Students will receive the iconic orange boxes to take with them when they go out on Halloween. Participation is optional, but all are encouraged to help this worthy cause. Thank you!

Grandfriends’ Day: We are looking for volunteers to help out at this year's Grandfriends' Day events on Wednesday, October 24th and Thursday, October 25th. Our grandfriends may need some guidance identifying teachers and locating the correct classrooms, so please consider signing up to help using this Sign Up Genius link.

Trunk or Treat: We are looking for volunteers to help out at this year's Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 26th. This year our Art and Literature Fling will focus on Greece! Each week in our announcements we will include a fact about this fascinating culture that stretches back thousands of years and has had such incredible influence on the world. PLEASE SHARE THE WEEKLY FACT WITH THE KIDS! In May, around the time of our Art and Literature Fling, there will be an electronic quiz on the weekly facts sent home for families to complete. All families achieving a perfect score will have their names put in a prize basket raffle to be drawn at the conclusion of the Art and Literature Fling on Wednesday, May 28th (you'll have to be present to win)!

Greek cooking is generally very healthy. It makes wide use of vegetables, olive oil, grains, fish, wine, and meat. Other important ingredients include olives, cheese, lemon juice, herbs, bread and yogurt.

Greek people traditionally eat four meals a day, beginning early in the morning and ending late in the evening. The Greek tradition is to begin with a small breakfast of a beverage and a sweet bread or pastry. They may pick up a mid-morning snack, a sesame-covered bread ring called a koulouri, from a vendor on the street. The Greeks eat their big multicourse meal, dinner, at about 2 p.m. then take a two- to three-hour nap, during which time most businesses and offices close. Folks start to return to work around 5:30 p.m. and shop or spend time with family until their late evening meal.
