A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
It was another GR-eat week to be a Longhorn. This week's highlight comes out of the GRHS Art and Broadcasting departments! From Rodeo Art to Calendar Art, to LIVE weekly broadcasts...these Longhorns certainly "GOT TALENT"!
First, I am so proud of Mariah, Andrea, Keenan, and Keely, our GRHS Broadcast Journalism News team and Mr. T! Collectively, this team has created, filmed, edited and produced a news broadcast each week since the first week of school this year. Also, several of the newscasts were live streamed through YouTube which means they produced and aired a live news program from the TV studio on our campus; no small feat. Finally, as far as we can tell, GRHS is the only high school in LCISD to produce live and recorded weekly newscasts! They are the GR-eatest! Check out every week's news at the end of my weekly newsletters! I will be joining them for the live broadcast this Friday....stay tuned!
Next, we had 4 entries of Rodeo Art and 4 3-D Rodeo Art that moved on to be judged this year! Congrats to Mrs. Light and all our Longhorns that advanced this year! See their masterpieces below!
Finally, 3 of Mrs. Light's Art students were chosen to be featured in PBK's Calendar Contest. We were the only LCISD school that made the cut! Ziyeng and Jonathon were both chosen to appear inside the calendar and Laura received an honorable mention and is featured on the back cover. All three of these students received a gift card and certificate for their GR-eat achievement! Thanks to Mrs. Light for providing this opportunity for our artists as they were able show us a "view of GR through an eye of the students that attend here every day. Many LCISD schools were serviced by PBK as the architect, and GRHS was one of them!
Congrats to all our GRHS NHS Inductees that were recognized at our ceremony this past week! Your hard work, character, and dedication is paying off! We are proud of you! Keep it up!
FYI....Friday is the mid way point for this 4th six weeks, so progress reports will come home next week! If you are part of any UIL events, you know that your eligibility is at stake if you do not give your best effort. Hard work matters!
Course Selection and Counselor Schedules:
22-23 Course Selection is in FULL swing, which means our counselors are out of their offices MOST of the day servicing our 2650+ students (including being at RJH to meet one on one with our incoming freshman). This is a lengthy process because they meet one-on-one with EVERY student to ensure they are set up for success (and graduation) here at GRHS.
Please don't get frustrated if you get an out of office response from their email that says they will be getting back with you within 24-48 business hours, because in the interim their awesome Admin Assistant - Mrs. Ware, will be happy to assist you/your child. Her contact info is here, nware@lcisd.org and will also be linked in the counselors "out of office reply" for easy access for you. Your Longhorn is important to our GR counselors, so they will be getting back with you within 48 business hours, unless it is a safety concern, which will be priority, and handled immediately, of course.

Behavior Reminders!
- No ID = NO PHONE USE (even at lunch) If you refuse to put them up, it's a write up.
- Phones must be put away at all times in the classrooms, unless there is an instruction purpose GIVEN by the teacher and the sign is on GREEN. If you refuse to follow this, it will be a write up.
- Ignoring teachers/staff when they are asking you to put on ID or to put your phone up will be a write up. (That's just disrespect)
- In the hallways without an ID AND a pass during class time, will be a write up. Parents- if you wonder why grades are slipping...it's their personal devices and lack of urgency to participate in class.
- Instigating, participating, or videoing an altercation (regardless of how small) will be a write up. If you are part of a fight, you will be placed at ALC.
Let me say...that you are BETTER than this, but the lack of respect (post COVID) that many are showing is not fair to the MAJORITY of our Longhorns and Staff that are here putting in the work each and every day. Do better...because you ARE better!
ID's Mandatory! We GIFTED you a NEW one this semester! It's up to your to wear it!
