Happy Friday South Community! This week we had our first SHARK Assembly (the group is pictured below). SHARK Student of the Month awards are based on recommendations from teachers and staff to recognize students who exemplify being Safe, Hard-working, Accountable, Respectful and Kind. We do these assemblies monthly. Our Kindergarten SHARKS got a crash course on what it means to be a SHARK with the help of student volunteers today. As a reminder, we have Fall Walk to School next Wednesday (Band students can drop their instruments off on Tuesday if they do not want to carry them during the walk), PTO next Wednesday and Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 19th. Sign ups will be open to families on October 5th at 4pm.

The South School will be holding our Fall Walk to School day on Wednesday, October 4th. We will be holding a couple more of these days this year! Please read the information below for the event details and be sure to dress your student appropriately for the weather. We will meet at the corner of Park & Ash St (Everbright Dental) from 8:00-8:10 AM. South School Staff will be at the drop off spot to assemble the group. We will begin walking at 8:10 AM. Students must be accompanied by an adult, guardian or your whole family! Physical activity is a great way to start the day! We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, October 4th! Band students can drop their instruments off on Tuesday if they do not want to carry them during the walk. This event is for students and families only, please leave four legged friends at home for this event! Thanks!!
Our Newest South Sharks
Introducing - Ms. Birkmeyer
Hi all,
My name is Meghan Birkmeyer and I’m so excited to be the new art teacher at South! This past May, I graduated with my Master’s in Education from Lesley University. My fun fact is that I have an identical twin sister, who I am very close with. When I am not teaching art, I love going to the beach, reading, traveling, and trying new places to eat! I am looking forward to sharing my passion for art with all my students!
Introducing - Mrs. Rizzo
My name is Samantha Rizzo and I’m the math interventionist at South. I grew up in Canton and now live in Quincy with my boyfriend and our two year old puppy and pet hedgehog. I love reading, traveling, hiking, and spending time with family. I'm so excited to be a part of the South School community and share my love of learning math with our students!

CLASSROOM PTO REPRESENTATIVES
We are still in need of Classroom PTO Representatives! Thank you to the parents and guardians who have already volunteered to serve as the Classroom PTO Representative for their student's classroom. There has been a lot of interest for many classrooms and you will be notified soon if you are selected to be the rep.
We are still looking for reps for the following classrooms:
- Ms. Montello
- Mrs. Matthies
- Mrs. Laquidara
If your child is in one of these classrooms, we hope you will consider volunteering. The Classroom PTO Representative helps with the communication between the school, PTO and families. Their primary responsibility is to send monthly messages to classroom families with updates on PTO activities. This is a great opportunity for you to get involved without a large time commitment. If you are interested in volunteering to serve as a classroom PTO rep or have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to Lori Jacques at lorijacques41@gmail.com.
