Welcome Back to School!
I want to personally welcome all of our district families back to another fantastic school year! I am excited to greet you this week as your children reconnect with friends and meet their new teachers.
LASD's team of teachers, principals and staff is thrilled to embark on a new, year-long journey of learning. Our student-centered approach to education allows children to access their interests in the classroom through innovative instruction in project-based learning, design thinking, STEM, computer science, hands on science with Living Classroom, the arts, physical education, a wide variety of junior high electives and more.
Each year as our students' educational skills grow, we challenge, inspire and empower them to explore their creativity in the classroom to reach new heights and become truly become lifelong learners. If you haven't seen it yet, take a look at the video below that highlights the learning in our schools.
We are all looking forward to an incredible year of learning with your children.
New-to-LASD Teacher Orientation and Training
This summer, we welcomed over twenty teachers, psychologists and speech therapists to LASD during a five-day New Teacher Institute. These exemplary educators were chosen from a broad pool of experienced and qualified candidates because they share our commitment to ongoing professional development and student-centered approach to instruction in the classroom.
During the New Teacher Institute, our newest educators learned about the ongoing training and support LASD provides to all of its teachers to promote student achievement. They also explored new instructional practices and mindsets for innovative and effective teaching and learning, particularly in math, literacy, science and engineering. Please join us in welcoming these talented and experienced educators to the LASD school community!
Educational Collaboration
LASD students excel due to supportive learning communities with a collaborative team of professional teachers, educational coaches and committed principals. To this end, our teachers will continue to meet weekly this year to collaborate, design curriculum, evaluate student progress and ensure your child learns the necessary concepts for success.
Partnering with Our Families
The strong partnerships we build with parents are key to providing a world-class education for every child. Your child’s teacher, principal and I encourage you to communicate with us as often as you like if you have questions, concerns or exciting stories to share about what your child is learning. To kick off the year and continue building our partnership, please join us at your child’s school for Back-to-School Night. If you aren’t sure of the date, please check your school's website.
