I love March at CES....it's March is Reading Month! This is the time of the year that we see the most growth in Reading in our students. They get really excited about reading and all of the great prizes they can earn. I also love it because of the great parents that we have! I see many, many pictures of you reading to your child at home shared on our Face Book classroom pages and it warms my heart! Just know that reading to your child is one of the biggest contributions to your child's success in school and in Reading specifically. Thinking back to when my own three daughters were small and learning to read my thoughts go back to my youngest daughter, Mariah, and her energy level at all times. She struggled learning to read. I can remember reading to her as she sprinted/danced and moved her way around the living room. I can remember reading to her during dinner because she was a captive audience at the time. I knew that meeting her right where she was, was going to help her be successful. She was fortunate enough to be able to participate in Reading Recovery in First Grade and it was amazing. She is now in college doing very well in her classes. Be persistent parents....keep reading to your child until they are ready and able to read to you, then let them read to you as much as you can even if it's on the way to school, at the grocery store, sitting at a soccer game watching a sibling play, etc. Thank you for your partnership!

Attendance Matters!
Showing up to school greatly impacts a student's academic success. Families play a crucial role in ensuring that a student gets to school safely and on time daily. We understand that absences are unavoidable, such as illness or medical appointments. Please call in advance if your child will not be in school.

Counselor Corner
Hi Little Eagles!
In February I was able to visit each classroom and focus on empathy & kindness. Students got to explore what empathy means and why it is an important part of showing kindness. We practiced seeing what different emotions look like on peers with a game of Feelings Charades. They really enjoyed this, and were able to see that we all don't show emotions the same way. Ask your student if they can show you want "I love you" is in sign language, another fun thing we practiced together!
Save the date: Career Day will be Friday, April 28th this year. Please reach out if you are interested in participating, I am in need of many volunteers still!
* This month our Character Trait focus is: Respectful *
We will be exploring the importance of being respectful to ourselves and others while also showing good manners, patience and following rules in place.
Defined as: Acting in a way that shows you care about others feelings and well-being.
Please feel free to reach out if you are in need of resources or if there is a way I can support your student or family this year. ashley.phelps@myeagles.org or 517-769-8557.

I am excited to announce that we are bringing back Mileage Club to CES for the month of May but we can't do it without your help.
What is Mileage Club?
Mileage Club is the #1 run club for Elementary Schools. Students will walk/run the track during their lunch recess. Laps are counted automatically with Mileage Club's EZ Scan technology and toe tokens are awarded.
If we are able to get enough volunteers, the students will be able to do Mileage Club Monday-Friday during their lunch recess for the entire month of May. If you are able to volunteer and help make this happen, please use the signup genius below:
