Message from Head of School, Matt McCrea
Dear Meridian Community,
It has been so wonderful to see everyone for the first few days of school. While I know that we all enjoy the summer vacation, I know that we have all been excited to come back for a new school year.
First, I want to thank each and every family for trusting us with your students for another academic year. We know that you have a lot of choices for where you send your children for school, and we are grateful that you joined us for this year.
We have an amazing year ahead of us. We will continue to start each morning with Crew, which is our way of building relationships and community inside of each and every classroom, and a way for all of our students to feel connected to each other and learn about themselves and their identities. We are also building on the strength of our academic program through more opportunities to learn outside of the classroom and out in the community for all of our students. Finally, we are planning many more activities and events to engage all of our families in our school community.
We are confident that together, we can make this year the best Meridian has ever had. We look forward to partnering with you to support your student's learning this school year, so if there's every anything that we can do for you, please don't hesitate to reach out to me or any other member of our team. We hope to see you all at Back to School Night in a couple of weeks and the other events that we are planning. Have a great week!
Educationally,
Mr. McCrea

DC pushes back student immunization deadlines
One of the most important aspects of keeping students safe and healthy in school is through immunizations. With your help, Meridian has made a concerted and coordinated effort to ensure families have access to routine pediatric immunizations and the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education has acknowledged the challenges with meeting this deadline across the District and has amended the Immunization Attendance Policy. New attendance guidelines state that students age 12 or older will have until January 3, 2023, to have received all required doses of a COVID vaccine before facing exclusion from school.
Below is the new vaccination deadlines based on age groups. This staggered approach is meant to reduce the number of students who can be excluded from schools at any given time.
General Information and Supports for Back-to-School
For Middle School (6-8th grade) Families Only - Athletics Interest
Is your 6th-8th grader interested in potentially playing on one of Meridian's Fall competitive athletic teams (soccer, flag football, cross-country, tennis, lacrosse & cheerleading )? In addition, we will offer soccer, lacrosse, and tennis to our K-5 population.
Any student who wants to know more about playing sports at Meridian should complete the athletics interest form. This does not formally commit a student to playing but will make sure that the Athletic Director and coaches are aware of your interest. Should you have any questions, contact the Athletic Director, Tanasha Allen, at tallen@meridian-dc.org.
FREE Breakfast and Lunch for ALL students!
