Once Upon A Time.....
The second grade teachers and students finished their first unit in our new ELA curriculum. This year, our district adopted the Amplify curriculum CKLA. Each unit has a different theme, and within the theme students are exposed to various stories, new vocabulary, and story elements. The first unit in second grade was Fairy Tales and Fables. Students listened to stories about Babe and the Blue Ox, The Fisherman and His Wife, Beauty and the Beast and many more. To celebrate the end of this amazing unit, the teachers and students celebrated with a special day! Fairy Tale and Fable Day found our hallways filled with little princesses, some very cute blue oxen, and our very own Paul Bunyan. Students watched Disney's "American Legends," four short films including John Henry, Johnny Appleseed, Casey Jones and Paul Bunyan. Students also were able to eat the fish (Goldfish crackers) from the Old Man & the Sea and drank Babe's juice (blue juice). Students and teachers loved the celebration and we can't wait to see what our next units have in store!

PE News
Hello Hometown families,
We are currently doing Fitnessgram testing for grades 3-5. The students are being tested on sit-ups, push-ups, sit and reach (flexibility), and the pacer test (cardiovascular endurance). We have completed the sit-up and push-up test and are finishing up the last two tests this week. Our K-2 students have been working on their Throwing skills. We have been implementing the correct throwing form in a variety of fun games. A popular game called Poison Ball can be seen in the pictures below. Please remember that all students must wear gym shoes on a daily basis to participate in PE class. Thanks.
