Global Immersion Week 2017
Master in Management
A word from Professor Ricardo Pérez
The San Francisco GIW is a week you will remember. You will experiment at least one critical thing in your time here: you will also believe that everything is possible and that you can change the world. This is the feeling that you will see in many people, the energy you will perceive in the interaction with them. We hope this will be an unforgettable experience for you.
During the week we will do basically three things:
- Explore what it means to be a startup in Silicon Valley, and given that almost all the group comes from outside the US, what does it mean to be a startup created by someone that comes from outside the ecosystem.
- Understand how some of the oldest – most successful companies in the valley work, what does it take to work in the corporate tech world? How do they do innovation and global management?
- Finally, we will try to understand how the new giants like Google, compete, both in terms of processes and talent.
Make sure that you prepare the visits, understand the companies, what they do, the stage of maturity at which they are. Check out the speakers profiles, look at what they do and write and share. Get ready to have an interesting interaction. If they see interest and people asking smart questions, they will raise the bar of what they share with you.
My last recommendation is that you come with an open mind, ready to not only listen to the words but also care for the details: how people work and interact with us, what you see in the offices of the different companies, the stories they tell and how they do it.
Every time I come back from San Francisco, my energy levels are fully charged. I will always remember the first week I spent there, how surprised and engaged I was. I hope you will also remember this week, and that it will help you in designing your future.
