Continued conversation and dialogue with your children is extremely beneficial in building your relationship with them, shaping their values, developing their communication skills, providing you with information and much more. I challenge you this weekend to sit down together during meals and make it a no device zone (I know this may be a challenge to some of you more than our little learners). Let's invest in our relationship with our children and build a stronger rapport before they get to middle school. Fair warning...there may be a period of time in the future where they will value more of what their peers say than what we teach them. Let's be proactive in instilling a stronger set of moral values and foster principled communicators.

In the month of October, we will focus on the IB Learner Profile "Inquirer"

The IB Learner Profile aims to develop students who are inquirers. Students who are inquirers nurture their curiosity, developing skills for inquiry and research. They know how to learn independently and with others. Inquirers learn with enthusiasm and sustain their love of learning throughout life.

Have a great weekend ~

• Visit places that spark inquiry like a museum, park or nature preserve.
• Explore the areas of your child's interest by visiting the library to borrow books.
• Develop an understanding of the Internet. Work with your son or daughter when the Internet is being used and try to instill the understanding that some internet sites are not reputable.
• Model being an inquirer. Ask questions and wonder!
• Praise your child for asking a question
• Have your child jot down their wonders in a journal. Spend time researching these wonders!

Saúl Álvarez, known as Canelo Álvarez, is a Mexican professional boxer. He has won multiple world championships in four weight classes from light middleweight to light heavyweight, including unified titles in three of those weight classes and lineal titles in two. "Canelo" received the Hispanic Heritage Award for Sports on October 1st, 2019. “The Hispanic Heritage Foundation is thrilled to recognize the career and cultural pride of Canelo Alvarez who has, more importantly, served as a role model to our youth,” said Jose Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO of HHF. “Canelo has been an inspiration not only to Mexicans and Mexican Americans but to the entire Latino community.”
