Congrats, USD489!
Your district and teachers were beyond dedicated this summer and landed in the Top Ten of Greenbush University participation.
This means teachers in your district completed enough Greenbush University sessions that the number of certificates completed was more than 140 other districts across the state.
We're thrilled to have been able to work with so many of your teachers this summer and want to thank you all for your incredible efforts to keep improving for your students.
We look forward to working with you and your teachers often in the future!

STUDENT USERNAMES & PASSWORDS
The link below has the information on how to access the list of student usernames and passwords for your building. Teachers do NOT have access to generate PDFs. This is different from STAR, so please share with your staff. (You will notice the student username = first name and ID; password = abc123.) The log in site should be linked to your webpages. Please check that out and let me know if something is not working/accessible.

MENTOR/MENTEE
Updated KSDE Mentoring Requirements: August 2021
Southwest Plains Overview of the KSDE Licensing/Mentoring requirements – KSDE and SBOE changed some of the mentoring requirements and programs in the summer of 2020. With COVID, there was so much going on that it is now showing up on some licenses with their renewal instructions.
While some programs now require extra mentoring, KSDE is only able to fund the first two years for the stipend reimbursement program for KSDE qualified mentors. The stipend program runs year to year depending on funds.
As always, call KSDE for the final answer to your questions, as there are so many factors and situations which may arise.
The following are just some of the most common licensing and mentoring situations...

Lexia Core 5 – Elementary Structured Literacy
Fun fact: Did you know over 20% of Kansas students (K-5th) use Lexia Core 5?
Buy why? Lexia® Core5® Reading is a fun, computer-based program that has helped millions of students improve their literacy skills to transform students learning to read to reading to learn.
The activities in Core5 support and build on classroom curriculum and focus on developing reading skills in six areas:
· Phonological Awareness - recognizing sounds in words
· Phonics - understanding the connection between sounds & letters
· Structural Analysis - recognizing meaningful parts in words
· Fluency - reading smoothly and with expression
· Vocabulary - understanding word meanings and relationships
· Comprehension - understanding spoken and written language
