Organize, edit and share your memories with Microsoft Photos. The new Photo app makes it fun and easy to enhance your digital memories. And if you liked making videos with Windows Movie Maker, you'll love what you can do with Photos.

See All Your Photos

The Photos app in Windows 10 gathers photos from your PC, phone, and other devices, and puts them in one place where you can more easily find what you’re looking for.


To get started, in the search box on the taskbar, type photos and then select the Photos app from the results. Or, press Open the Photos app in Windows.


Browse your collection by date, album, video projects, people, or folder. Or search to find a specific person, place, or thing. The app recognizes faces and objects in images and adds tags to help you find what you need without endless scrolling. For example, try searching for “beach,” “dog,” or "smile," or select a face shown in the search pane to see all photos that person is in.

Edit Photos & Videos in Windows 10

Whether you're the hands-on type or like improvements that work automagically, the Photos app in Windows 10 gives you all kinds of options for getting your photos and videos looking their best.


For more creative Photo options, select Edit & Create, and then select Add 3D effects or Edit with Paint 3D.


For more control over how your video looks and sounds, select Edit a copy. You’ll find options for adding text, music, motion, filters, and 3D effects.

Enhance or Edit Photos

Edit a Photo

  1. Begin by selecting Edit & Create
  2. Select Edit, and then select either Crop & rotate, Filters, or Adjustments.
  3. Use these features to tweak light, color, clarity, and remove red eyes.

Get Creative

  1. Select Edit & Create
  2. Select Draw and then select one of three drawing tools.
  3. Select your chosen tool a second time to see options for color and size.
  4. Go ahead and draw on your image, and if you mess up—you can always erase markings you don't like with the Eraser tool.

Share Your Creations

Once you're happy with your drawing, share it! To share a still of your new image or an animated playback of your drawing, with your creation open, select Share.

Black & White Photo

In Photos, select a photo, tap or click it, and then select Edit & Create > Edit. Choose a black & white filter like Vanilla or Mercury, then select Save a copy.

Add Text to Photo

Open a photo in Paint 3D (select Menu > Insert), then select Text. Choose 2D or 3D text, select the image, and type the text. Move or rotate the text box and click outside the box to place it. Note: Once 2D text is placed, you can't move it again.

Reduce Size of Photo

Open Photos and select the photo you'd like to resize. Right-click the photo and select Resize, then choose the size you want.

Create a Video Automatically

  1. In Photos, select Create > Video remix and select the photos and videos you want to include.
  2. Or open an album and select the play button
  3. Select Remix it for me to instantly change its look and feel by recombining images, music, and styles.

Create a Video from Scratch

  1. Select Create > Video project. Select the photos and videos you want to include, select Add, and then name your video.
  2. To change the look and feel of each photo or video clip you’ve included, select the clip at the bottom, and then select a button like Trim (for video clips only), Filters, Text, or Motion.
  3. To apply a theme that changes filters, music, text style, and motion for the whole video at once, select Themes.

Add Music & 3D Effects to Video Clips

Add Music

To add or change the music for the whole video, select Music near the top. If you choose one of the recommended songs, the music will automatically adjust to the length of your video.


Add 3D Effects to Video Clips

If you’ve included a video file as part of your project, you can add 3D effects to it (like a lightning bolt, sparkles, or butterflies that flutter through the scene). To do this, select the video file at the bottom of the video project, select 3D effects, and then select the effect you want to add. Drag the edges of the effect to adjust its size and placement.

To trim a video clip, select Trim, drag the white circles to where you want the video to start and end, and then select Done.

Remove Black Bars

Open the video project in Photos. In the storyboard, right-click the clip that needs changes and select Resize > Remove black bars.

Change Aspect Ratio

From the video editor in Photos, select Change aspect ratio, then choose the ratio (16:9 for widescreen or 4:3 for TV) and portrait or landscape. Select Export or share to save your changes.

Add Narration

Record your narration audio with the Windows Voice Recorder app, then open your video project in Photos and select Audio > Narration > Import audio.

Video Drawing

Open your video in Photos, select it, then choose Edit & Create > Draw. Draw something on a moving object or person, then select Attach ink to an object. When you're done, select Save a copy.

Video in Few Clicks

Open Photos and select Create > Automatic video with music. Then follow the onscreen steps. After the video is created, select Remix it for me to instantly change the look and feel.

Share a Video

To share a video project, select Export or share, choose a file size, then select Share to social media, email, or another app.
