Hello Parents/Guardians!
As we are now into cold/flu season and also still dealing with COVID-19, this note serves as a gentle reminder regarding a few things related to student health.
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL
1. Sick children need to be kept home from school; to include excessive coughing, sore throat, runny nose/congestion, vomiting, and/or high body temperatures (fever). Resting at home will help them get better more quickly and will prevent them from exposing other children or the staff to their illness.

Please note, we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann (sally.warf@pgcps.org), Dr. Fryson (tfryson@cmitelementary.org) and Mrs. Virgil (evirgil@cmitelementary.org). It's almost time for another amazing fundraiser, our Double Good popcorn sale! This year the event will run from Tuesday March 14th - Saturday March 18th. Please note you have more than one child both of them will use the SAME fundraising page for this. Below are the step-by-step instructions. Hello Kindergarten Families,
Please check the weather daily, so your scholar is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Please make sure that you are reading any messages via dojo, class story, or emails pertaining to your scholar’s class.
As we prepare for our Kindergarten promotion ceremony which will take place in June, we will send out a save the date when it is finalized. We would like to have a baby picture of your scholar to use in our slide show, please send the picture to your scholar's teacher’s email, which can be found below.

As a reminder, photos will be posted to Class Dojo and displayed during our Kindergarten Promotion video and celebration. If we do not have your permission to use your scholar's photo, they will not be included in videos and such for the promotion ceremony.

ELA: We will be reviewing compound words, reviewing our sight words; were, some, and funny. Encouraging your scholars to create sentences using these sight words is a great way to help remember each word. We are preparing for our unit 3 assessment for next week.
Math: We are continuing to learn about two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. We will use a variety of shapes and manipulatives, as well as identify shapes that we see in our environment.
Science: We are continuing to talk about the needs of animals. What are the basic needs that all animals need to survive? What are some ways you think different animals will meet those needs?
Social Studies:We will continue to learn about natural resources vs man-made resources, we will identify them during outdoor recess.
Health: Our topic will be about “Responding to Others” We will discuss what good manners are and why they are important We will demonstrate taking turns listening and talking with a partner. A question we will discuss; If you were talking with a friend, what could happen if you both spoke at the same time, all the time?
Friendly reminder: Class dojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities, events, and messages. Please make sure that you are connected to your scholar’s Class dojo. Teacher emails and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well.

Please provide a nut free snack for your scholar daily. Your scholar should have a full set of extra change of clothes that are labeled with their name (uniform) that can be kept in their cubbies.
If your scholar’s form of transportation changes for dismissal, please complete the necessary forms and upload into the document, as well as notify your scholar’s teacher.

Additionally, please ensure that your child is dressed warmly when they arrive to school in the mornings. We have outdoor recess at 10:20 a.m. if the temperature is at or above 32 degrees. It is important that students are dressed appropriately for the weather.

This week in Reading, we will be working on Unit 3 Week 4. Throughout week 4, we will read informational text. We will be making connections between author's purpose and ideas in other texts. We will be taking our weekly reading test. The spelling pattern for the week will be vowel teams: oo, ue, ew, ui.
In Math, we will be working on topic 9. This topic will cover number to 1,000.
In Science, we will be talking about the surface of Earth changes and what causes those changes to happen.
In Social Studies, we will discuss producers and consumers.
We are in need of tissues. With the cold and flu season in full affect, we are going through our supplies fairly quickly.
Please ensure scholars are coming to school dressed for the winter weather. We have recess at
10:50 a.m. and will be going outside if the temperature is above 32 degrees.

In Social Studies, students will be reviewing Chapter 3 Lessons 1-6 in preparation for the Unit test on Friday.
This week in Math, scholars are continuing to learn about fractions. Scholars will be using number lines to compare the sizes of fractions.
In Science, scholars will be learning about inherited traits and characteristics that are passed through generations of organisms.

We strongly encourage parents to check SchoolMax weekly to stay abreast of your scholar's progress in all academic areas. Students can redo eligible assignments within a week of being posted. Weekly check-ins with your scholar about his/her grades is a great way to set goals and reflect on progress.
We are in need of hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes, and facial tissues. The cold and flu season is upon us and we would like to continue to keep our classrooms germ free.

Great day scholars! Team 5th Grade has been on a roll with achieving greatness this week. We are in the process of MISA testing this week in science. Students have worked very hard this school year and we want to continue to support their achievements and their incredible successes in each subject area!
Let's continue to encourage them and support them in every way so that they are successful in achievement. Continue to monitor their reading assignments such as IXL, iReady, Vocabulary.com, Social Studies, and their weekly reading logs. Their homework calendar shows exactly what they should accomplish each day in reading and other subjects. Let's go Tigers! Great job so far!

Science:
This week, students will complete the MISA testing on Monday. In Science, we will explore the Solar System.
Math:
In Math, students will analyze data displayed in a line plot.
RELA:
In RELA, we will analyze and work in the genre of poetry. We will use background knowledge of previous lessons and incorporate new reading skills of sensory and exploratory content to connect poetry and creativity. Students will correlate the idea of themes and inferences in a text to understand the big idea of the author''s purpose. Students will also work on their Women's History Month projects. This is a week to be creative, understand the meaning of a theme, and to use of poetry creatively! Let's go Tigers!
Social Studies:
Explorers roar! We have migrated to the west coast of North America and are learning the impact of the industrial revolution. Chapter 8 focuses on the changes that have occurred in our nation and the migration westward toward the pacific. Students will delve into the reason for the Westward expansion and those that were of influence.

This week we have continued to reinforce craftsmanship and completeness, the last 5% of their artwork. And what it should look like. They are preparing for presentations, and soon reflections. Projects include: Hybrid animal creations, Building designs, and more mindfulness projects like our Zentanglements and Notan Squares, a lesson into self-awareness.

Happy Women’s History Month! Students are learning about dozens of famous female musicians this month, and will be playing songs sung by a select few on classroom instruments.
March is MUSIC IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH! We are bringing the school together with an all-school fun activity, March Madness! Instead of basketball teams, we’re using theme songs of popular cartoons to compete to the end for the NATIONAL CHAMPION title! Who will it be?!
Technology
K-2 practiced:
Digital Citizenship: The Mysterious Map
In this engaging digital lesson, Truman and Poppy learn about the importance of netiquette in communicating emotions.
3-5 practiced:
Tynker- When Something Doesn't Work In this course, students learn about the different types of errors that can occur when we work with computers and how to help troubleshoot them.

Good week parents, this week students will be combining different combinations of exercise in order to complete the relay race.

K-2 Students are counting 1-20.
3rd grade ordering food
4th-5th grade Writing sentences using “AR-ER-IR” verbs. Also, using words from their Clothing Vocabulary to dress for the office. In addition, students will be role playing ordering food.
