Our Eagle Med spring blood drive total. We surpassed our goal of 35 units with a total of 39 donations. Our students really help out by contributing to our drives. To explain the numbers at first look you would think the number would be a total of 42. But we only count total sticks as 1 donation. When someone Donates on the ALYX machine it takes up to 1.5 hours and takes Red blood cells, Platelets, plasma and gives back fluids all at the same time. When someone donates Platelets and plasma they receive back the whole blood. And then people just donate Platelets and receive everything else back, this usually happens if someone has sickle cell traits or is a carrier for sickle cell.
