District Update - Oct. 27

Superintendent's Message
I would like to begin by congratulating our Midview students and families for their incredible efforts during the first quarter. Our accomplishments in academics, activities, and athletics speak for themselves and are thanks in no small part to the support we receive from our community and, ultimately, the work and care of our staff!
As a district, we acknowledge that any success we celebrate would not be possible without the efforts of our talented team of teachers and support staff members. As captured in the featured article at the end of this newsletter, we are fortunate to have numerous educators – many of whom you may recognize from your time as a Middie – who have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of students over the years! They are the foundation of Midview Local Schools and deserve their own congratulations and thanks.
In coordination with the end of the quarter, the district will have our second early release of the school year this Thursday, Nov. 2, followed by a PD Day (No School) on Friday, Nov. 3. Please plan accordingly if you have not yet done so!
This is also an opportune time to take advantage of our upcoming parent-teacher conferences. Meet with teachers early in the year to better understand what your child is learning at school, their academic and social-emotional progress, and what you can do to support them. If we all continue to work together, our students will have great success through the end of the 2023-24 school year. Please check your building newsletters or web page for conference dates.
I invite you to join us in closing out a successful month and first quarter by attending Trunk or Treat this Monday (Oct. 30) from 5-6:30 p.m. We are grateful for the time and effort (and not to mention the mass amounts of candy) our Midview Compass Committee, staff, clubs, groups, and teams have poured into making this an enjoyable evening for our community. As a reminder, we kindly ask that participating families bring a donation of money or a non-perishable food item to help feed students in our community through the Backpack Program.
We are quickly approaching a busy and fun time of year filled with winter athletics, choir and band concerts, and holiday festivities. I encourage you to regularly check our district calendar to stay in the know about all the ways to be involved in supporting our students.
Happy (almost) November, Middies. I look forward to great things as we begin quarter two.
Take care,
Dr. Willingham

Midview East Intermediate Awarded OSLN Grant for Second-Year
Midview East Intermediate is one of 161 schools in the state and one of two in Lorain County to receive the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN) Classroom Grant!
The Middies’ grant funds will be used for the purchase of 20 Hummingbird Robotics Kits. Utilizing these kits, fifth and sixth-grade students will learn how to program and code in STEM class, bringing their projects to life with lights, motors, and sensors.
The animatronic integration will culminate in a demonstration of mastery and ultimate creativity with a school-wide engineering design challenge. Students will build mini-golf holes with moving and light-up elements for the Midview community to enjoy during the district’s K-6 STEM Night on April 25. Read the full story here.
Midview Local Schools Honors Local Veterans with Yard Signs and Cards
As part of our Veterans Day celebrations for a second year, Midview Local Schools recently honored local veterans with an unexpected gesture of appreciation. Last week, Midview High School Key Club members delivered custom yard signs and handmade cards from North Elementary students to 50 veterans’ homes.
Local men and women who served in our nation’s military were greeted with a simple, yet most sincere message: “Freedom isn't free. Midview thanks this veteran.”
Students also visited the Grafton VFW to pass out signs to its visitors and those who may not have been comfortable nominating a veteran for home delivery.
To date, nearly 200 signs have been shared with members of our community! Read the full story here.
Cleveland Cavaliers Midview Family Night
Please note that the LAST day to enter K-8 students into the raffle for an exclusive on-court fan experience is November 3. Please fill out the following form to enter!
Midview High School Drama Club Presents "Sylvia"
Save the date for the MHS Drama Club's production of Sylvia!
