News from the Principal- November 17th
Dear Families,
Thanksgiving break is right around the corner! There will be no school November 22nd - 24th, we hope that all our families have a blessed Thanksgiving!
Just a friendly reminder that cold weather season is upon us. Please make sure students are wearing their jackets and other winter clothing like hats, gloves, etc. to school. If your student has lost an item of clothing at school please have them look through the lost and found in each cafeteria.
Cold Weather Policy - Recess
In an effort to give students as much physical activity and fresh air as possible, teachers and staff at AES will attempt to have students play outside throughout the school year during recess times. We will plan to go outside for all or part of a recess period if the wind chill temperature is above 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

Soaring Student of the Week!
Students at AES have the opportunity to earn recognition for positive behavior during the week. When staff members see great choices being made, students can receive a SOAR slip with specific praise. Every Friday, the names of every student who earned a SOAR slip are read during the morning opening. All student slips are entered into a drawing, and one student is randomly chosen to receive donuts for his or her class.
This week's Soaring Student was Alycesaundra Buchanan from Mrs. Scott's 1st grade class.
Thank you, Daylight Donuts, for partnering with us in this special recognition for our students!
Questions from the Classroom
Preschool: We have learned to identify numbers 0-9. Do a scavenger hunt around your house and find as many numbers as you can.
Kindergarten: What are you thankful for?
1st grade: Ask your student to explain the following addition strategies: Friend of Ten, count on strategy, or using a number line. (Friends of Tens are addends that add up to 10 every time. ex: 1+9, 8+2, 7+3, etc. Count on strategy (adding 1, 2, or 3) is saying the big number and counting up the smaller number. 9 + 2 : saying 9, count on 10, 11. Using a number line is starting on the biggest number jump up the smaller number. YOU MUST jump first before you start to count.). All of these strategies should make your student more efficient when adding!
2nd grade: In a classroom there are 5 rows of 2 chairs and 2 rows of 3 chairs. How many chairs are in the classroom? (16 chairs; 2+2+2+2+2=10 and 3+3=6; 10+6=16 chairs)
3rd grade: Ask your student, who was Franklin Delano Roosevelt? (Our 32nd president of the United States)
4th grade: Describe the theme of a book you are currently reading. How do you know that is the theme?.
5th grade: How do you multiply mixed numbers? You change the mixed numbers to improper fractions, then multiply across (numerator x numerator and denominator x denominator) then you simplify.
