Dear Bernardo Families,

Yesterday, many of us attended the memorial service for Joshua Whitten who was a student at Bernardo from Kindergarten through 4th grade. It was encouraging to see so many Bernardo families and staff at the service to honor such an amazing boy and to support the Whitten family during such a difficult time.

Our school is truly a special place thanks to all of you and the way you come through to help and serve others in times of need. I am thankful to be a part of the Bernardo community where the adults are great examples of the kind and caring humans that we want our children to be.

Farmers Market Experience Last Thursday

Hopefully your child told you about the Farmers Market experience that took place this past Thursday at school. The District-sponsored event taught our students about how our food is grown as well as the importance of always washing fruit and vegetables before eating. At the end of the presentation, each student was able to select their own fruit and vegetables to take home (and hopefully eat!).

New Breakfast Cart

Beginning tomorrow, our food services department will be hosting a breakfast cart before school where students can stop by and pick up a free morning snack that they can enjoy before school or during morning recess. The cart will be set up each morning just inside the 2nd/3rd grade gate and any student can stop by and grab a free snack if they are interested.

We will still have our regular free breakfast available up in our kitchen area for any student who is interested in eating breakfast off of the regular menu before school begins.

Fun Run is Coming Soon!

Our Fun Run is this Thursday! We invite our families to come out and cheer the students on during the following event times.

8:15-8:35 - TK
8:40-9:10 – 1st Grade
9:15-9:45 - 3rd Grade
9:50-10:20 – 5th Grade
10:25-10:55 – 2nd Grade
11:00-11:30 – Kindergarten
11:35-12:05– 4th Grade

Students are encouraged to wear appropriate running shoes and to bring a water bottle with them this Thursday for this awesome event. We hope to see you there!

Pajama Day This Friday

As a result of over 52% of our families registering for the Fun Run during the first three days, our students get to celebrate with a Pajama Day this Friday, March 10. It's always fun to wear our cozy PJ's to school. Please just be sure they wear shoes that can play and run in!

Bring the Family to Watch "Ratatouille!"

Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, and snacks and join us on March 17th for our Outdoor Movie Night being sponsored by our PTA! Details below.

Our PTA will have goodie bags with pre-packaged popcorn, cotton candy, and fruit snacks for the first 200 kids who show up. We encourage families to also bring their own treats to enjoy during the movie.
