Notes from East Hill Elementary

Dear East Hill Elementary School Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to inform you of an upcoming development that will temporarily impact the leadership at our school. I will be undergoing a scheduled medical surgery that requires a period of recovery for several weeks.

During my absence, it is essential that our school continues to function seamlessly to provide the best possible learning environment for our students. In order to maintain the high standards of education and student welfare that we all hold dear, I am pleased to inform you that we have appointed an interim principal to oversee the daily operations of East Hill Elementary School during my absence.

I would like to introduce you to Mr. Rob Leo, who will step into the role of Interim Principal while I am on medical leave. Mr. Leo comes to us with many years of serving our district in the role of an administrator and teacher. I am confident in his ability to uphold our school's values and ensure a smooth transition during this period. Mr. Leo has supported East Hill in the past on the days I have needed to be out of the building and he is fully briefed on our school's policies, practices, and culture.

I want to reassure you that I will remain in close communication with Mr. Leo and the school staff throughout my absence, and I will be available to provide guidance and support when needed. Rest assured that our students' safety and well-being will continue to be our top priority, and the educational experience at East Hill Elementary School will remain exceptional. I want to express my deepest gratitude for your ongoing support and understanding during this time. I look forward to returning to our beloved school in January, and I will miss the daily interactions with our wonderful students and our dedicated staff and families who make our community so special.

Tomorrow morning, Thursday, November 9, Lifetouch will be here for picture retakes. If your student missed picture day, they can get their picture taken. If you'd like to get a new picture taken, please send your student in with the prints or proof that was sent home and notify their classroom teacher.

Due to parent/teacher conferences, November 20 and 21 are half days of school for elementary schools only! Dismissal begins at 11:15. Please plan accordingly and notify the office of any dismissal changes.

I am so excited that we have started a Safety Patrol program for our grade 4 students. Any student that was interested in this leadership role applied by completing an application. Officer Clarke trained the first squad of our patrols that will be serving for the months of November and December. Our next squad will begin in January as many students are excited for this opportunity!

Parents/Guardians of students that took the NYS assessments last spring can now view the individual student reports on ParentVUE under the documents tile.

The cooler weather is upon us! Please keep in mind that our students will continue to go outside for recess daily. If the temperature is 20 degrees Fahrenheit or above, recess can take place outside. If the temperature is below 20 degrees Fahrenheit (this includes factoring in the WINDCHILL), recess will be indoors. Students should always have appropriate clothing for the weather each day: Coat, boots, snow pants, hat, and gloves.

Also, please remember to label your child's cold-weather clothing. You will be so glad you did!
