Week 3 of Term 2
Dear Ross Families,
During this season on Thanksgiving, I remain grateful for your support of our special school community and for trusting your child's education to our faculty and staff.
"When in doubt, just say thank you. There is no downside. Are you honestly worried about showing too much gratitude to the people in your life?" James Clear, author of Atomic Habits
Enjoy the holiday weekend and stay well.
See you back at Ross on Monday, November 29 and at Super Saturday on December 4!
Warm Regards,
Holly Searl, Principal
Term 1 Report Cards
Term 1 Report cards will be mailed home this week.
Please note report cards are a communication tool between teacher and parent/guardian. They are not a student facing document. We advise exercising caution in using report cards as a reward/punishment for students as it could negatively impact their identity as learners. Instead of focusing on grades, we focus on fostering a growth mindset and continual improvement. Questions about grades should be directed to your child's teacher.
K-5 parents can access report cards in the DCPS Aspen Parent Portal.
Aspen Support: dcps.aspen@k12.dc.gov
POC: Mr. Salazar, farley.salazar@k12.dc.gov
Monthly Cultural Recognition Board: Seeking Family Photos
In December, the first floor bulletin board at Ross will focus on the “Seasons of Light,” which includes (but is not limited to) the late Fall/early Winter holidays of Diwali, Hanukkah, Christmas, the Winter Solstice, and solar New Year.
We want to recognize and honor how Ross families celebrate the “Seasons of Light,” and we need your help!
Please email K1 teacher, Ms. Emminger (kelly.emminger@k12.dc.gov), a photo of your family celebrating one (or more) of the holidays listed above (or another light-based holiday that occurs in Fall/Winter) and we will print and post it on the bulletin board for the students and staff of Ross to view. We will also create a virtual bulletin board where parents will be able to view all the photos submitted.
In your email to Ms. Emminger (kelly.emminger@k12.dc.gov), please include the following:
- photo of your family celebrating the holiday
- name of the Ross student(s) in the photo
- name of the holiday being celebrated
- optional: a brief description that you would like to share with the community of how your family celebrates the holiday
All emails that are received by or before November 29 will be included in the bulletin board.

School Year 22.23 Enrollment
The FY23 budget cycle, which includes enrollment projections, is now in full swing. If your plans do not include returning to Ross next year for K-5, please email Principal Searl.
If you are applying out to private school, please note that recommendations are sent directly to the receiving institution and not provided to parents. All records requests can be sent to Mr. Salazar. farley.salazar@k12.dc.gov
