News and Notes
Buffalos,
Next week on Monday we will have picture retakes and do class photos for all grades. We also look forward to having parents attend Site Council and PTO on Tuesday evening. A few additional pieces of information:
- Survey from Conferences- As a part of our school improvement process we are continually seeking feedback so we can continue to strengthen Berryton Elementary. Thus, I ask that each family take a few minutes and complete the survey directly below.
- Veteran's Day Parade- We are exciting to welcome all veterans to BES on 11/11 at 2 pm for a drive-thru parade. If you have a loved one attending please take a second and RSVP for your veteran.
It's Great to Be a Buffalo,
Mrs. Bervert
Attendance Reminders
DID YOU KNOW?
- Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
- Missing 10%, or about 2 days per month over the course of the school year can make it harder to learn to read.
- Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
- Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
- Absences and tardiness can effect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school- and themselves.
Start building healthy habits now so that students learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in middle school, high school, and beyond. It's also important that the office is notified via phone or email if students will be absent/tardy for any reason.
Important Attendance Definitions:
- Tardy- arriving after 9:10 am
- Early Pick-Up- leaving before 2:30 pm
- Unexcused Absence- an absence lacking reasonable justification or an absence lacking communication from guardians within 24 hours
According to Kansas Law (K.S.A. 72-113) a student is truant if they have missed the following without legitimate excuse:
- Three (3) consecutive days
- Five (5) unexcused absences in a semester
- Seven (7) unexcused absences in a school year
If a student has excessive absences (more than 10), a doctor's note or physical documentation will be required for an absence to be excused.
