As a reminder, all freshmen took the Pre-ACT while sophomores and juniors took either the PSAT or a Practice ACT.

Are you curious about what next steps are available to your rising junior/senior student and how to best prepare for the next chapter after high school? What better time than enrollment for the upcoming school year to discuss a plan for graduation and beyond! Whether it be college, military, or the work force, we are here to help you plan and prepare. Come join the BVSW school counselors on Thursday, January 19th at 7:30 AM in the library for an informational presentation and Q & A session. We hope to see you there!
College Now
College Now at Johnson County Community College
Admissions –
New College Now students need to apply for admission if this is your first time in taking College Now courses this spring.
Excel in CTE -
Tuition is waived for Kansas residents for Excel in CTE courses. Residents of Missouri will be charged tuition. This designation will display on your high school’s College Now Class Schedule for courses that are approved for Excel in CTE.
Spring schedule of classes is available online –
The schedule of classes will display course offerings for your school as well as any prerequisite requirements that may be needed. Students and parents can visit our College Now website to get all the information they need to APPLY/PLACEMENT/ENROLL/PAY for the spring semester. These four steps will walk you through the process with FAQs to answer any questions you may have along the way.
Enrollment and Payment Deadlines-
Deadline for spring College Now enrollment is Friday, Feb 10. Payment is due at the time of enrollment.
Spring College Now enrollment begins on Jan 17!
Career Ready Programs
The Career Ready Programs department is offering several exciting opportunities for Blue Valley students to earn college credit at little to NO cost to families through Johnson County Community College (JCCC). Students can earn an associate degree OR career-ready certification in high-demand, high paying fields. Areas include: Automation Engineering Technology, Automotive Technology, Culinary & Hospitality, Cybersecurity, Electrician Technology, Electronic Technology, Emergency Management & Fire Science, HVAC, Plumbing, and Welding/Metal Fabrication.
The information shared at these sessions will be most relevant for current sophomore and junior students and parents/guardians. We invite you to attend one of our community-wide family informational sessions in January. We encourage parents/guardians/students to all attend. You do not need to RSVP to any of these events, please make plans to attend and learn more about these programs.
January 17, 2023: Learn more about the Emergency Management & Fire Science program with our partners at the Overland Park Fire Department (OPFD) at the OPFD Training Center at 12401 Hemlock from 6:30-7:30 P.M.
January 25, 2023: Learn more about the Dual Degree option and how to earn your associate degree AND your Blue Valley diploma at the same time! Join us on the campus of Johnson County Community College and the Nerman Museum of Modern Art, Room 217, from 6:00-7:00 P.M. Link to JCCC Campus Map
January 26, 2023: Learn more about the career ready certification programs in the JCCC Hugh Libby CTEC building lobby from 6:00-7:30 P.M. We will hear from Blue Valley staff, JCCC Deans, Department Chairs, and Blue Valley students currently enrolled in these programs. Link to JCCC Campus Map

PINK OUT BASKETBALL GAME!
BVSW female athletes are rallying together to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation to support breast cancer research. Friday, February 3rd, our girls basketball team will be hosting St. Theresa’s Academy at 7:00 pm. We are selling t-shirts in advance with proceeds going directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Pre order your shirt at The Den by 1/19/23 and we will get it to you in time to wear to the game.

We have our first Boys Open Gym dates scheduled!

This is a no-experience-needed, open-to-any BVSW guy, great-time. I will be giving some guidance to the open gym, but mostly a great opportunity for you guys to play volleyball. Attending these open gyms, by no means, requires you to be a part of the Boys Volleyball Club. Please invite friends even if they don't want to join the team in the spring.
Note, we will have team tryouts and prospective player/parent meeting the week of 3/6, but more information will follow.

Parent Chaperones Needed
10th Grade Field Trip Sign-Up - 10th graders will visit the WWI Museum on March 1&2 and the staff has asked for help from some parent chaperones. (This is a golden opportunity -- how often do you get to do field trips with your high schooler!)
New Timberwolf Night Sign-Up - help greet new Timberwolf families at the PTO table on 1/25.
