Around the School Spotlight

In upcoming newsletters, we will be highlighting some of the amazing things happening here at Hawks View. We know that so many of you are unable to be in our building regularly, so it is our hope that this provides you with opportunities for discussions with your child(ren) and a glimpse into the incredible things happening here!

This year we rolled out an exciting program addressing social learning, specifically for some of our youngest learners - our kindergarteners! Small groups of students meet two times weekly for a trimester at Social Explorer Club. During club meetings, we use child-friendly language, engaging storybooks, lessons, and activities to make these social competencies accessible. The curriculum, We Thinkers! Social Explorers is designed for students ages 4-7 and uses evidence-based materials to help students develop foundational social skills that include: Thinking Thoughts and Feeling Feelings, The Group Plan, Thinking with Your Eyes & Body in the Group, and Whole Body Listening. Through the use of this program, students strive to become flexible social thinkers and social problem solvers.

Our kindergarteners are so fortunate to learn from Ms. Walker and this group is often the highlight of their day (and her day!). In addition to her kindergarten groups, Ms. Walker also runs our “Hawk Zone,” which is a space many of our students visit for social-emotional skill building.

Attendance Update

As shared with you last week, our Hawks View team has partnered with our technology team to pilot a new attendance emailing system. This email will now be sent on April 21st (instead of this week) and again in mid-May. All families will receive an email with an update on their student’s attendance for the school year. We know that regular attendance is a key factor in the success of our students, and we are hoping that these updates will help parents with more timely attendance information. We are required by the state to track and report attendance data and to move forward with attendance processes in order to support an improvement in attendance rates. Additional letters will be mailed for students falling below our state attendance guidelines. As always, if we can help in any way with improving your child’s attendance, please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher or directly to me. We would be happy to help in any way we can. Please know, there is no specific action needed on your end from those emails, this is just to make you aware that you will be receiving them. Thank you for your continued partnership!

Hawks View Family Movie Night

Please join us for our family movie night, hosted by Hawks View PAC, on Friday April 21st. Bring the family and a blanket for a fun evening movie watching event. Parents must stay with their children. Kona Ice will be available before the movie for a special treat! Flyers are coming home via backpack mail, or click HERE for details.

2023-2024 PAC Board Elections

Parent involvement is not only a great way to help support our amazing school, but also a great way to grow in community with each other. Many fun family events and supplementary educational programs are made possible for our kids because of so many wonderful volunteers, including those who serve on the PAC board. The Hawks View PAC is its own nonprofit and holding annual election keeps us in accordance with our governing bylaws.

Please take the time to place your votes HERE. Deadline for voting is April 22nd.

NAMI Community Presentation

The SHARE Center is happy to partner with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) to host a morning of mental health education, support, and resources for parents of school-age youth.

Join us at the District Office on April 22nd at 9am-1pm for a day of learning and community with NAMI. NAMI has presented in neighboring school districts and is a non-profit organization that works to educate the community on Mental Health awareness.
