Bernardo Parent Bulletin #14

As Thanksgiving is approaching, I wanted to take a quick moment and express my gratitude and appreciation to all of our Bernardo parents and guardians.

Thank you for supporting your children as they participate in all of the various school activities and events, from silly dress-up days to the various drives and campaigns to benefit others in the community.

Thank you for volunteering in the classrooms, helping work with students in small groups or by prepping materials for classroom activities.

Thank you for driving students on field trips so that they can benefit from meaningful real-world experiences.

Thank you for your generous donations of classroom supplies as well as money given towards our PTA fund-raisers.

Above all, thank you for blessing all of our staff with the honor of working with your amazing children. It's an honor to partner with you to help them have the best elementary school experience possible.

Students are invited to wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31st. Please ensure that costumes are elementary age appropriate without any weapons, masks, blood, or gore.

We will hold a costume parade on campus so that students can show off their costumes. We're excited to invite parents to come and watch the parade this year! Just sign in at the front office and head out to the basketball courts for the parade that will begin at 8:15. At some point in the parade, the students will be performing a special flash mob - Click here if you'd like a preview of what they have been working on.

If your child wears a costume to school on Halloween, please send a change of clothes to school so that he/she can change out of their costume following the parade.

When driving down Mountain Heights Drive, please let a car in front of you that is coming out of the parking lot. This small gesture really helps our traffic flow much smoother, allowing us to speed up the entire dismissal process.

All Veterans and Active Duty Military Personnel are invited to our upcoming Veterans Day Celebration on Thursday, November 10 from 8:15-9:30.

We're excited to hold an outdoor assembly followed by our guests visiting classrooms to share about their experiences. We'll also be putting together a slide show featuring photos of our guests in the military attire.

If you are a Veteran or Active-Duty Member or know someone who is that would like to join us for our celebration, please complete the Google Form below so that we can plan accordingly.

We have some incredible 2nd-5th grade students who dedicate their mornings to serve as greeters to provide a warm welcome and help walk some students down the halls each morning. If your child is interested in signing up as a greeter for Trimester 2, please click on the flyer below to complete a Sign-Up Google Form. Applications are due by November 4 so don't delay!

As their annual community service project, our 5th grade classes will be spearheading a food drive from November 1 through November 18 to support families in need. Thank you for considering how you can support this great cause.

Mark your calendars! Thursday and Friday, November 17-18 will both be minimum days for all K-5th grade classes. On 11/17, school will dismiss at 12:15 and on 11/18, school will dismiss at 12:10.

Please make your pick-up plans accordingly!

The State of California is offering free on-line tutoring services for all California students. Students can receive tutoring in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The link for these services is https://www.library.ca.gov/services/to-libraries/online-tutoring/. All tutors have reference and background checks, a 4-year degree, pass a proficiency exam in the area that they are tutoring in, and are supervised regularly.
