Corona High School - A Tradition of Excellence Since 1896
Greetings, Panther Families
It's hard to believe that it is already MARCH, which means spring is almost here! With that, we have kicked off our spring sports season with baseball, softball, track and field, boys tennis, boys volleyball, boys golf, and swim!
With the third quarter coming to an end fairly soon, it is important that our students remain focused on their academic progress. This is a very busy time of year and is easy to forget and miss deadlines, so please make it a point to follow up with your student daily on his/her assignments. There are only three months remaining this school year, and graduation will be here before you know it.
Respectfully,
Antonio Gonzalez, Ed.D.
Proud Principal

Corona STEM Academy
Amazon Future Engineer School
I am proud to announce that we have been selected as a recipient of Amazon's Future Engineer program! Amazon will sponsor Computer Science curriculum and professional development for our school. This will definitely help our school build and maintain our newly offered Computer Science program through our STEM Academy! Thank you and congratulations to our very own Mr. Patrick Chao (STEM coordinator and math & Computer Science teacher), who applied for the grant! This will help us grow our AP courses in the field of Computer Science! You can learn more about the program here: https://www.amazonfutureengineer.com/...

Health Careers Pathway (HCP)
On February 28th, Jessica Contreras, a representative from RCC, helped 47 Medical & Regular Anatomy and Physiology students apply to RCC and enroll in Biology 45, a class that can be taken at Corona High School and is articulated with Riverside Community College. This means that students can earn college credit for passing this class! Also, HCP students had an opportunity to hear from a a forensic technician from Corona PD on February 27th.
Engineering
- STEM Engineering students were engaged in creating electrical circuits today (March 1st). They are getting hands-on experience with how electricity makes things work. Students are using a fast prototyping breadboard to create circuits by plugging in resistors, LED’s, batteries, and switches to create light. They are using Ohm’s Law to calculate the current, voltage, and resistance of a circuit. They are learning how to use a multi-meter as they use them to take voltage and resistance reading on the live circuits they create. They are also exploring how circuit design, whether it is a series or parallel circuit, changes the current and voltage output of a circuit. Just another day in STEM Engineering, where we inspire and instruct the future generation that will change the world.
- STEM and AVID Integrated Math 1 students were engaged in an AVID tutorial style activity today. In groups, students reviewed the newly taught concepts of statistics. Below are our students can be seen analyzing data by creating dot plots, histograms, and box plots. Students took turns coming to the board to act as facilitator to help work through problems. Seated students remained engaged as they asked question. Great communication and collaboration happening in math.
CTE
It is with great gratitude that the CTE department at Corona High School thanks Navjot Kaur and Gurneet Singh for their gracious donations. Navjot and Gurneet donated 6 comprehensive first aid kits, 6 large fire blankets, and 10 eyewash kits to Corona High School’s auto shop, wood shop, metal shop, and engineering programs. The first aid kits will serve a great need in proving more safety for our students. Navjot and her son Gurneet have really step up to help Corona High School and we will always be thankful for their contribution!
AVID
On Wednesday February 20th, AVID students were recognized at our bi-annual Breakfast of Champions event. On Friday February 22nd, the Top 50 students in the program (by GPA) went on a fieldtrip to SOKA University and then a cultural visit to the Mission San Juan Capistrano for a guided tour. It was a nice educational reward for their hard work.

Advanced Placement
AP Testing
AP Environmental Science
Our APES class took a field trip to Prado Wetlands and got to tour the water reclamation plant. The students conducted water quality tests, took a nature hike, planted native trees, and learned about the effect of the invasive cowbirds on the endangered Least Bell’s Vireo. Thank you to community members: the biologists at the Orange County water district and the Inland Empire Water Keepers and City of Corona for funding the this authentic learning experience!
Physical Fitness Test
It is that time of year again: the physical fitness test! The testing will begin be administered throughout the month of March. It is important that we test 100% of our freshman class, so please encourage your student to take this test serious as it has class scheduling implications. If students do not pass this test, they MUST be in a PE class sophomore year, and will NOT be eligible to take the summer school PE course for advancement. This applies to our students with impacted schedules due to special programs. Follow this link for more information about the test: https://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/pf/overview.asp.

Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project
"Since its inception in 1982, the Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project (CLYLP) has offered a once in a lifetime opportunity for California’s youth in Sacramento. The Sacramento Leadership Conference (SLC) brings 120 high school students from throughout the state to participate in a week-long, intensive leadership program. Conference participants attend powerful workshops and seminars that enhance leadership skills, academic preparedness, self-esteem, cultural awareness, and provide an understanding of state and local government. Programming at all CLYLP programs including the SLC is based on CLYLP’s four curriculum “C’s”: Community, Culture, College, and Careers.
Participants will leave with valuable information and tools that they can begin using when they return to school in the Fall. Most importantly, students will leave with new friendships from throughout the state of California. Housing, meals, program materials and transportation to and from the conference are provided at no cost to the participants or their families."
