Spanish Honor Society is sponsoring the Pulsera Project
Our Spanish Honor Society is sponsoring the Pulsera Project as a social service/social awareness campaign for artisans in Central America.
The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that began in 2009 when a group of friends traveling in Central America discovered a community of artists in the foothills of Nicaragua. The artisans were masters of weaving colorful bracelets (or pulseras in Spanish), but had little market to sell their artwork in Nicaragua. A few of the travelers returned to the US with handfuls of pulseras to sell on behalf of their new artisan friends.
Since then, students and teachers in hundreds of communities in all 50 states across the US have sold pulseras, helping expand the project throughout Nicaragua and into Guatemala as well. Volunteers have united around a simple idea--that by sharing art, knowledge, and ideas across cultural lines, we can create a more ethical and colorful world.
Students empower nearly 200 artists through pulsera sales, creating sustainable fair trade jobs in a country where few such opportunities exist. Pulsera proceeds are returned to the artisan communities to fund scholarships, community programs, worker's rights campaigns, shelter support, sustainable energy initiatives, and many other projects that create bright futures for these artists and their communities.
We have hundreds of bracelets to choose from including leather and beaded as well as a small selection of pouches/bags. Bracelets sell for 7$ and the bags sell for 15$. We are able to take cash, Venmo and check. Sales will begin Monday 1/23 and run through February 6 during ELO (a cart will come around) and lunchtime (room A77).
Much more information about the Pulsera Project as well as short videos can be found on the link. Thank you for your support.

Make a Wish Colorado
TVHS is raising money for Make a Wish Colorado, and we need your help.
We are sponsoring a 10 year-old from Loveland named Orion! Orion suffers from a nervous system disorder, and his wish is to buy a camper for his family. The money we raise will help Orion and other kids like him achieve their dreams. One of our fundraisers is a class competition. Whichever class raises the most money gets to sit in the front of the student pit for the basketball games versus MVHS on Thursday, February 16. This is a privilege because our tradition is for seniors to sit in the front of the pit. If you would like to support Make a Wish Colorado and support your child’s grade level, you can donate using this link: https://secure2.wish.org/site/TR?pg=team&fr_id=4681&team_id=38764. To support a specific grade level when donating, please scroll to the links at the bottom of the page. Thank you for helping us support a young person in our community!

The Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) is a $40,000 scholarship program for students who plan to study STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs.)
The American Chemistry Council has partnered alongside HBCU Week Foundation, American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and Chemours to make the program possible. In addition to the scholarship, students will gain leadership development, mentoring and internship opportunities with program sponsors and access to AIChE student networking events.
They are now accepting applications for the third year of the program through February 15th, 2023 and encourage you to share this opportunity with your communities.
Program FAQs:
Graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply. Applications for the 2023 cohort opens on Friday, September 23, 2022.
Each FOSSI scholar is awarded a $40K scholarship ($10K per year, for four years), offered leadership development, mentoring and internship opportunities with program sponsors, and access to AIChE student networking events.
Since 2021, FOSSI has provided 295 scholarships, with a goal of 1000 scholarships by 2025.
