MST Weekly Update
September 29, 2023

Good afternoon to all of our MST family members.
It is hard to believe, but we have just finished the fourth week of school and are nearly halfway through quarter 1. The 9th grade students seem to be adapting well to high school. It is a big change for most, especially the competency grading.
There is information below about our Open House this coming Wednesday night from 6:00-8:00. We hope to see you there.
CelebrateEd Game Changers
On Saturday September 23rd, Manchester Proud organized the 3rd annual CelebrateEd MHT to put a spotlight on all of the educational accomplishments that are happening in the Manchester School District. The Vans RV-12 airplane built by MST students was on display in the park and admired by many in attendance. Thank you to Aviation Teacher Mr. Jeff Sullivan and Mr. Bob Hough from the Aviation Musem of NH for being there all day.
Throughout the day, Game Changers Awards were announced recognizing excellent students and staff from every school in the district. The Game Changers from MST (pictured) are from L to R: Mr. Scott Lawlor (Residential Carpentry teacher), John Alade (12th grade), Josselyn Ascencio (11th grade) and Ms. Jessica Weiss (English teacher). Ms. Jennifer Jenkins (Administrative Assistant) and.Sezar Faraj (12th grade) were also recipients, but they were unable to attend the event.
Congratulations to our MST Game Changers, it is well deserved!
NH Construction Career Day
On Friday, students from the Residential Carpentry program, and from the NHJAG class attended the annual Construction Career Day at the Hillsborough County Fairground in New Boston. Pictured (L to R) are an unidentified former MST student, carpentry student Alexis Champagne, and carpentry teacher, Mr. Scott Lawlor.
New Hampshire Construction Career Days (NHCCD) exposes New Hampshire high school students to possible career paths in both the construction and transportation industries through a hands-on exhibits and educational resources. Construction companies, school districts, state agencies, trade and professional organizations collaborate to provide the students with an introduction to various aspects of construction.
Open House-October 4th
Open House for both MST High School and CTE will be held on Wednesday, October 4h from 6:00-8:00 PM. This night is for parents to visit, with their MST student, to hear about the expectations in each class. This is not a night to discuss Indvidual student progress.
There will be brief meetings for parents of 9th graders in the Brennan Center at 6:15 and 7:00. These meetings will be to explain competency grading so that you understand the first report card that will be issued in November.
PSAT Exams
Sophomores will be taking the PSAT exams on one of three days; October 11th, 12th or 13th. Khan Academy has free PSAT preparation lessons that are very valuable. More information will be sent out by our guidance counselors next week.
Attendance Procedures
If your child is out sick, you should call the school on the morning of the absence to inform us that they will be out. This phone call does not excuse the absence. Your child must bring in a note when they return to school in order for the absences to be excused. If excused absences exceed 10, it is considered chronic absenteeism, you will be required to provide medical documentation explaining the reason for the absences. Failure to provide medical documentation will result in all absences over 15 to be considered unexcused.
Free Covid Test Kits
Beginning on Monday, September 25th anyone interested can order free at home covid test kits using the link below. Covid is on the rise, and this is a great opportunity to get some test kits for your household.
